WAIT… YOU’RE TELLING ME THIS LEGEND WAS BORN IN MOBILE?! 👀🔥

Before Hollywood knew the name Fayard Nicholas, he was a Mobile, Alabama, native.

Born here in 1914, Fayard Nicholas and his younger brother Harold went on to become the legendary Nicholas Brothers, taking their electrifying tap dancing and acrobatic performances from Broadway to Hollywood.

Then came their unforgettable 1943 performance in Stormy Weather.

The jumps.
The flips.
The tap.
The sheer athleticism.

It became one of the most celebrated dance performances in American film history and helped cement the Nicholas Brothers as icons whose influence reached generations of performers.

And somehow, this incredible piece of Hollywood history traces right back to Mobile. 🎬🕺🏾

So we have to ask:

Mobile politics got real Wednesday night. 👀

At an intimate town hall inside Downtown Mobile’s historic Arts District, Democratic candidate Clyde Jones sat down with roughly 60 residents, veterans, families, and fellow political candidates, and let the COMMUNITY decide what needed to be discussed.

And one topic quickly rose above the rest:

DATA CENTERS. ⚡💧

From pressure on Alabama’s power grid and water consumption to environmental risks and why so many projects are being proposed in underserved communities, Jones called for a moratorium on data centers until their impacts are better understood.

Then the conversation turned to another issue with massive implications for Mobile: Alabama’s coal ash pits.

Jones warned that failing to address the environmental risks could have devastating consequences for the Mobile River Delta, comparing a potential disaster to “the BP oil spill times ten.”

Civil rights and voting access were also front and center.

His message?

“We are not a red State; we are a voter suppressed State!”

Whether you agree with Jones or not, these are BIG questions for Mobile, Alabama, and the upcoming 2026 midterm elections.

A New Chapter for Hillsdale ❤️🏡

A place to gather. A place to connect. A place to feel at home.

The brand new John E. King Senior Center is officially opening its doors in the Hillsdale community, bringing seniors a dedicated space designed for connection, active living, friendship, and community.

Named in honor of the late Deacon John E. King, a longtime Hillsdale resident and devoted member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, the new center carries forward a legacy of service and love for the neighborhood.

From comfortable social spaces and televisions to a fully equipped warming kitchen serving hot meals through the City of Mobile’s SAIL program, this is more than a new building. It’s a new community gathering place. ❤️

The ribbon cutting will take place Thursday, August 27 at 11:00 a.m. inside the Hillsdale Community Center gymnasium. With Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis, Council Vice President Gina Gregory, members of the King family, city leaders, and Hillsdale community representatives coming together to officially hand the keys over to the community.

⚾ Mobile has a baseball secret hiding in plain sight…

Long before today’s stadiums, scoreboards, and packed stands, baseball was already making history right here in Mobile.

Sims-Galle Field at Spring Hill College is believed to be America’s oldest active collegiate baseball field, with intercollegiate baseball dating back to 1889. And the story gets even better: baseball was being played on the grounds decades earlier, and baseball legend Babe Ruth stopped by in 1924. 👀

Think about that.

Generations of players.
Decades of history.
One field.
One Mobile story that’s still being written.

And yes, baseball is still being played there today. ⚾
