Hello, everyone
For those of you who haven't heard, the youngest member of my family has been in NICU in Iowa City since the day after he was born. Brennen (my cousin Rebecca's brand new boy and only child) was born with a large hole in his heart--it was a quarter of the size of his whole heart. At only 6 days old, he had 2 heart surgeries. At 3 weeks and one day, he underwent open heart bypass surgery. It has been a roller coaster of good news and bad news these past weeks. We are very thankful to everyone who has kept Brennen in they prayers. We are hoping that people will open up their hearts to him even more.
I just got the okay today from Rebecca and her husband Brent to start planning a benefit. I'm posting this on my Facebook group here because I'm going to have a side benefit for the baby that is geared for taphophiles. While all of us love cemeteries, cemetery-related stuff in the raffles and silent auction at the event would probably not be appropriate. :)
So what will happen is that donated cemetery-related items will be raffled or silent-auctioned to people through TheCemeteryClub.com.
If you have a book, photography, artwork, t-shirts or anything that you'd be interested in donating, it would be greatly appreciated. I'll look into the best way to do a raffle or silent auction online. (Anyone have ideas on this?)
If you would be interested in helping us help Brennen, we would be forever grateful. It would also be a big boost to Rebecca and Brennen, who have gone through heck and back. They haven't even been able to hold their baby more than an hour or so here and there, since he's been so hooked up to machines. You fellow parents out there understand what a heartbreak that must be. Bella is practically sitting on my arm right now; I can't imagine not being able to hold her whenever I want to ...
Thanks for taking the time to read this. And, while I've shared this heart-wrenching story, we also know that times are tight for a lot of people. So no pressure! But if you do want to take part, any little thing can help, whether it's a donation of some sort or a simple prayer.
Thanks again and take care,
Minda and family
