Our summers are going to be muddy…

Thank goodness for the trusty water hose 😂😭

We got Rusty at the end of September when he was still so little, then it got cold. But now he’s bigger, and on the first hot day we’ve had, he went full pig.

All of the animals and babies were muddy, running around and doing exactly what they’re supposed to do… making the biggest mess possible.

Our egg basket is filled thanks to this warm weather, so I had to grab whatever worked😂📦

I really want to add some more colors, maybe more blues? Greens? More marans?!?!

Rusty and my littlest baby’s first snow!!! It rarely snows in the low country of South Carolina, but this is two years in a row!!

My oldest is liking it a whole lot better than last year. We had to bring the snow inside to continue our play!

Then we brought Rusty in for a warm bath! I think he will be sleeping inside tonight if he can stop oinking long enough for a good nights sleep. He has been inside a lot, but this is probably the longest! The kids and our dog are loving it!

I haven’t posted on here in a long time. Life has been really full lately between running another business and raising two kids🩵🩷

The homestead is still very much alive though. We’ve got our chickens and our newest addition, our pig, who we absolutely love 🐷

One of the newer things we’ve been doing is fermenting feed for both the chickens and the pig. We’re about a month or two into it and have already noticed better digestion, way less feed waste, and it’s been a big money saver for us while we’re budgeting heavy. They are completely obsessed with it and won’t leave me alone when it’s feeding time.

I recently started using this herbal supplement from as an extra boost for the girls this winter. It’s made with all natural herbs that support immunity, digestion, fuller feathers, and better egg quality. I mix it directly into their feed and also sprinkle it into the nesting boxes to help keep pests and parasites away.

It’s been an easy addition to our routine, the girls took to it immediately, and I love having something natural to support them through the colder months.🐓

We have been busy the past couple months!! I’m sorry I haven’t posted any updates on our animals! Everyone is doing great. Rusty the pig is getting huge, the chickens just started getting fermented feed, but the cold has still slowed down their laying. Some are molting still. We have a lot of focus into our other businesses and getting things ready for Christmas!

I did take a video of me feeding the animals the other morning, so hopefully I’ll have time to edit it to post soon!

My least favorite chore is scrubbing down the waterers after some days of neglect. In the summer it sucks because of all the algae, in the winter it sucks because the water is so cold.

It is satisfying to have everything spotless when I’m finished.
