Update on Mark:
The water therapy has really helped Mark progress to the point where he can start “walking” with a cane. He is still not full weight-bearing, and we know that will take time, but being able to use a cane instead of hopping with a walker has made a big difference.

Swelling remains a challenge, especially in the bottom of his foot and throughout the entire foot. We started lymphedema therapy this week and have been going every day so he can be wrapped and try different treatments to help move some swelling out of his foot some and have a custom compression sock made that he will possibly wear for a very long time.

Mark is also continuing to work hard at physical therapy. He is focused on strengthening his leg muscles, improving the condition of his bad knee, and learning how to walk again. It is a slow process, but each week we can see progress even if it’s small it’s still progress.

As usual, farm life has been busy with planting crops and putting up hay. We are thankful that Mark can get around more easily and help us identify and solve issues in the fields. He is still dealing with significant nerve pain, and his toes continue to give him trouble. Being able to get outside some has helped his spirits, but he still cannot be on his feet for very long.

He has also been trying to get out on short outings more often. If you happen to see him out and about, be sure to stop and say hello. He always appreciates the encouragement.

There is still a long road ahead, but we are grateful for the progress he has made and appreciate all the prayers and support along the way.

An update has been hard to post because not much has really changed for Mark, and that’s honestly been one of the hardest parts. We keep hoping to share better news, but we’re still taking things day by day.

We have started different therapies every week. His fibula fracture still hasn’t healed, and we are trying to desensitize his foot. All of his nerves are firing like crazy, causing him a lot of pain. His whole foot is still swollen, especially the bottom. The trauma surgeon and physical therapists have never dealt with this level of damage to a foot, so there are still so many unknowns.

He can only move his big toe, and the rest of his toes won’t move on their own. They’re so stiff that he may have to go back in for another procedure to clip the tendons and pin them. Not knowing what the future holds has been really heavy.

Mark is still hopping on one foot with the walker because the pressure on his foot is just too much. He has started water therapy and can put weight on it in the pool, and we are so thankful for even that small step forward. We’re holding on to hope and praying that with time, he will walk again.

Spring on the dairy has kept us all busy in the middle of this. Rye/wheat silage and bales are put up, and most of the corn is planted. Our older kids and SIL have stepped up in ways that make us incredibly proud. We’ve all had to learn new things and lean on each other to keep things going. We are so thankful for 2 neighbors who have helped us to get corn in and for being able to now get Mark out to the field when we need help figuring something out.

Some days are just hard. It’s easy to feel discouraged and ask why this is happening or what good can come from it. We don’t have those answers, but we are choosing to trust God anyway.

We’re still taking this one day at a time. We are thankful for those who have sent freezer meals, donated to Jami Lynns and just dropped food off. It helps to take one thing off my plate. Thank you for continuing to pray for Mark and for our family—we feel it more than we can put into words.

With everything keeping us busy lately, I realized I never properly introduced a few of the new girls we added to the herd about a month ago. Pictures really don’t do them justice.

There are certain breeds Mark has always said would never be part of our herd… well, I couldn’t pass these up. We’ve officially added a few Milking Shorthorns—and honestly, they’ve fit right in like they’ve been here all along!

It just dawned on me that I never shared an update on Mark’s appointment last week.

Life has been full lately—so many babies on the farm and so much going on—but we wanted to take a moment to share where things stand and what God is continuing to do.

Mark’s fibula is healing slowly, but the doctor is confident it will heal. He’s been cleared to begin very light physical therapy in the next few weeks —just small amounts of pressure on his foot, little by little. The soft tissue hasn’t fully reattached to the bone yet, so we’re learning how to carefully walk through that process. They’re also working on getting him a compression sock to help with the swelling, although his toes are still very tender and turning purple at times, so that will take some patience as well.

He’s looking forward to sitting down with the physical therapist and seeking wisdom for the next steps forward.

The trauma surgeon reminded us that while things look okay right now, as more weight is placed on his foot, it could reveal hidden fractures or areas that didn’t heal correctly. If that happens, we may be facing more procedures—even re-breaking and resetting bones. For now, he is able to keep his foot, but there is still a possibility of amputation down the road.

We are continuing to trust God in the unknown.

This is going to be a very slow journey. There is no timeline for walking again, and we know his foot—and possibly his life—will never be the same. But we also know that God is already in every step ahead of us.

Through it all, we have felt His presence so strongly—and we have seen His love through each of you.

To our family, friends, our dairy community across so many states, and even complete strangers—thank you. Thank you for every message, every call, every prayer, and every word of encouragement. Mark has been sitting with his foot elevated for over three months now going stir crazy and your support is truly helping carry him through.

With spring work and forage season here I am overwhelmed because I can not do it all like mark and I usually do, those who have stepped in and offered help, you are such a blessing to our family. We see God’s provision through you.

We may not know what tomorrow holds, but we know Who holds it.

God is so good, and we will continue to trust Him with Mark, with our family, our finances from having to hire so many things the kids and I can’t get to and with whatever comes next.

Thank you for continuing to pray and walk alongside us. 🤍

Alright… let’s address the elephant in the barn 🐄😅

Some of you already know what’s going on around here… and the rest of you are probably wondering why there’s been so much “mysterious” activity lately 👀🏗️

We tried to keep it a secret. Truly. But we didn’t exactly nail the whole “top secret” thing 😂

Something BIG is happening at Fellwock Dairy… and we’re this close to making it official 🤏

If you know — keep our secret just a little longer 😉
If you don’t — now’s your chance to guess ⬇️

Big reveal coming soon… and we can’t wait!!

Update on Marks recovery

Yesterday’s appointment with the surgeon went well overall. The skin graft seems to be doing well, which we are very thankful for. Swelling is still an issue, but the doctor said that’s to be expected with the amount of trauma his leg and foot have been through.

The one concern right now is the fibula bone, which is still fractured and hasn’t started healing yet. He has another appointment in two weeks, and if it hasn’t started healing by then, they will schedule another surgery to place either a pin or a plate, depending on what they find when they get in there.

The other bones on the top of his foot are healing well, which is good news. Also, the hole between his toes has finally started closing, and that has been a huge relief to see.

Tonight was actually a big milestone. For the first time in 75 days, he was able to put his foot inside the shower while sitting in the shower chair. It may seem like a small thing, but it felt like a big step forward for us.

Because of the trauma, swelling, and the lack of moisture on his leg and foot for so long, he’s experiencing a lot of loose skin shedding. It’s truly amazing to see how God designed our bodies to heal and recover, even after something this severe.

We were hopeful he might be able to start putting a little weight on it soon, but it sounds like that won’t be happening anytime soon.

The second toe is still causing a lot of pain, and he hasn’t been able to get any relief from it yet. The surgeon believes it may be more of a nerve issue than a bone issue. For now, they want to give the nerves a few months to “wake up” before deciding what the next step will be.

This journey hasn’t been easy, but we are thankful for every bit of progress and every prayer that has carried us this far. Please continue to keep him in your prayers as we move forward. 🙏

We’ve been keeping busy here on the dairy. We worked all of the young stock yesterday for the the spring. Their winter coats are coming off and we can’t wait for the warmer days of spring that last! Buttercup is one of my favorite heifers💗

Update on Mark

We had an appointment with the surgeon to remove the cast from Mark’s surgery last Friday. The graft site is looking good, and the surgeon was pleased with how it’s healing. We still can’t see the donor site because the dressing is stitched on, but we’re trusting that it’s healing well too. The hole between his first and second toe finally seems to be closing — slowly but surely. It feels like just another small step forward, and we’re so thankful for progress, even when it comes at a slow and steady pace.

Our next goal is getting to the point where Mark can begin putting some weight on his foot. However, his second toe continues to concern us. It hasn’t improved, and he’s had constant pain. It remains darker and more swollen than the others. We’ll meet with the trauma surgeon again next week to figure out what’s going on. Mark is nearing the point of considering having it removed, which is a heavy reality to face.

We would truly appreciate your prayers — that infection stays away, that we gain clarity and direction regarding his toe, and for the kind of peace only God can provide as we continue walking through this. This season is hard… hard for Mark and hard for our whole family.

As field work begins ramping up and corn planting approaches at the end of the month, we’re especially grateful for the incredible employees who work alongside us. Their dedication keeps everything moving and ensures our girls are cared for so they can continue producing the best milk, just like always.

Thank you for walking this road with us. We are deeply thankful for every prayer, message, and bit of encouragement. ❤️

The ladies have been enjoying the weather these last few weeks and we are so thankful for the rain we are receiving. We need it!
