MONROE -- As part of their end-of-year projects, Monroe Middle School eighth graders had to design, build and float a boat across the Monroe Municipal pool to see who was the fastest, sturdiest and most creative. These STEM projects combined skills in all applicable areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. It also taught kids how to work together in groups. While some boats were successful, others sank to the bottom in a fun way to end the school year.

We enjoyed having Mauricio be a part of our film crew for the day! It’s great to teach the next generation of media producers. 🎥

As part of Career Communications at Monroe High School, junior Mauricio P. stepped behind the lens for a firsthand look at local media production, shadowing Natalie D., a Producer with Synqronus.

Mauricio jumped right into the action, hitting the field to help capture footage for a new Spotlight Green County news intro. From mastering high-tech Cine-cameras to learning how a clapperboard syncs audio, he got a true insider's view of professional videography and editing. Mauricio even pitched a location idea for the project!

The hands-on experience was a perfect match for his creative curiosity, leaving him more inspired than ever to pursue graphic design and cinematography after graduation.

📅GCTV SPORTS DAILY SCORE UPDATE📅
A bitter sweet day in sports, as all of these teams concluded their seasons 🥺

🥎 Juda-Albany and Cambria-Friesland were locked in a pitching duel until the bottom of the sixth, when Aubrey McCullough hit a single. The Hilltoppers responded in the top of the seventh with a solo shot -- the only run of the game. Despite seven hits, Monroe fell to Mount Horeb, committing three errors that led to three unearned runs.

⚾️ New Glarus lost a heartbreaker, as Fennimore earned the walk-off victory. All but one Glarner Knight reached base in the game. Monticello-Albany scored the first in its game but lost the lead in the third and couldn't recover.

⛳️ Despite shaving off three strokes from its regional team score, Monroe couldn't match up with the competition at sectionals and fell short of state.

Congrats to all athletes on a great season, and than you seniors for all of your dedication!

🥎GCTV SPORTS HIGHLIGHT REEL 🥎
MONROE -- The WIAA Division 2 Section 3 Regional game Thursday, May 29 came down to a technicality, as Monroe walked off Portage 3-2 to claim its first regional title since 2023. Initially, it appeared as if the Warriors ended the bottom of the seventh with a double play, tagging a Cheesemaker runner and throwing to first. On review, the Portage second baseman tagged runner Kaegann Paulson with just her glove, not the ball, allowing the play to continue and Maddie Ruegsegger to score with winning run.

Watch the full highlight reel, including quotes from Maddie Ruegsegger and Kaya Holverson, on our website: https://greencounty.tv/gctv-sports-june-2-2026-softball-monroe-vs-portage-regional-final/
