Master Bedroom Studios

Master Bedroom Studios We make sounds sound like other sounds or maybe the same sounds. It's hard to say. But I'm pretty sure it definitely has something to do with sounds.

"Master Bedroom Studios" technically started some 25 years ago or so with a Radio Shack 4 channel mixer, a few Radio Shack or what ever could be found at the bottom of a cereal box microphones, and a cassette recorder. To record a teen-age (barely teen-age) band called "Toe Jam!" Ha! The MBS name, however, was officially coined around 2000 when production took hold this time with the taking over o

f the master bedroom of now my own home in Phoenix, AZ, jumping up to the real deal with the purchase of a Mackie d8b, Tascam MX-2424, some Event monitors, and this time no more Radio Shack or cereal box mics! Today MBS resides in Monroe, Louisiana, and has it's own room - though true to its name - a room that is part of the master suite of the house. In this space, 24 to 32 track recording and mixing takes place via digital mixing console and digital hard disk tracking recorder. MBS keeps an ADAT around, too - just in case! MBS began specializing its setup to do multi-track recording of live band shows in addition to studio work pretty much from day 1 of official launching of the MBS name in 2000 inspired by being part of the original live productions of the Phoenix band: The Strand. Equipment has grown and that idea continues to be one of the main focal points of MBS - live show multi-track recording as well as studio work. With the involvement of live show work for recording, MBS is currently gearing up to launch additional operations to provide on location sound system setups and services for live show events. We'll probably throw in a few lights too. ;)

Stay tuned for a possible partner page for the live event productions.

My Audio PSA for the day to all:
Don't buy 2 way dual 15" PA cabs. Nor 2-way single 15" PA cabs. 15's just don't cover mids well and neither will the horn, so you'll have a huge hole right in the mids where you need good sound the most for clarity with a 2-way cab that's using a 15. Now if it's a proper 3-way cab, then different story. 15" woofer in a true 3-way (as in it has a smaller mid driver) can be okay, but don't do it in a 2-way if you want decent sound.

So that said, anyone out there want to buy my massive JBL JRX125 dual 15" PA cabs? They gotta go. ;)
For real, if anyone wants to buy them, I'm going to be getting rid of them. They're loud as can be and not had much use. Also have the JBL cover bags for them. Probably can sell an amp for them too.

Attempting to "upgrade" my old JBL SF series speakers to the current JRX200 line.
JRX200 line is supposed to sound a lot better than previous 2 generations (JRX100 and SF line - which both are work horses but leave a lot to be desired in sound quality).

After getting some detailed info from JBL service, it looks like the only thing that changed from gen to gen is the tweeter and crossover. So, I hit up Full Compass and ordered JRX200 gen tweets and networks.
Next up, side by side comparison with the other original cabinet.

And what's this?? Activity at the MBS page?? Yes! that's right. It's been a slow (and admittedly at times even lazy) 2 years for Master Bedroom Studios since the tornado-to-tree-to-house incident put the studio in hiding Oct. 2014, but the space is ready and things are finally stirring for real now. Mr. Loflin helped put a fire under MBS recently, and the 2 year drought was officially broken on Dec 23rd!

"MBS Live" hit the road, and we did live sound as well as live full multi-track recording of the 2016 Christmas Fade show at Enoch's!

There is still work to do to bring the studio fully back online, but actual gear has been turned on - and it still works! There's video proof even!

Stay tuned.
