Let's put aside for a moment the fact that Saban is the GOAT, thanks to the University's commitment to the program, exceptional recruiting and coaching (including some great assistants), and look at his abrupt decision to retire just days after the transfer portal closed.
When are ALL coaches at the college level going to beheld accountable for not holding to a contract. Saban still had 6 years left on a contract that pays him $11.4 million each year. To my knowledge he can terminate the contract and not face any monetary penalties, but if he had been fired, UA would have had to pay him more than $66 million.
Coaches, like Saban, who are still physically and mentally able to do their jobs, should be penalized monetarily. Maybe he should have to make up the difference of what it cost to hire a replacement. I hear Dan Lanning's buyout is $20 million.
