Daruma dolls begin with blank eyes. The ritual is simple: choose a goal, then paint one eye, not as superstition, but as a visible commitment to follow through.

When the goal is completed, you paint the second eye. In Japan, “both eyes open” represents achievement, reminding you of what you went through to get there.

Finding your 達磨

02/14/2026

This journey hasn’t been linear. From the kid moving cities, to the teen with a camcorder in Japan, to the documentarian on the border of India & Pakistan, to the creator of a full service media company...

Every chapter shaped who I am today.
And the best part? I’m still evolving. Still learning. Still building.

Because storytelling isn’t just what I do, it’s how I create connection. It's a bridge between people. A way to create harmony.

If you’ve been watching this series... Thank you!

Daruma (達磨) dolls are modeled after Bodhidharma, the founder of Zen. In popular legend, Bodhidharma’s prolonged meditation caused his arms and legs to wither away, influencing the Daruma’s form.

Katsuoji Temple, located in the mountains north of Osaka, is known for its Daruma. The dolls are placed across the temple landscape as symbols of determination, endurance, and success in personal pursuits.

Compressing your work into a focused 4-hour window can be more effective than a 10-hour day filled with distractions.

Ask yourself: If you were watching the movie of your life after you're gone, would you be happy with how much time you spent staring at a screen?

Key Takeaways:
- Focused work > long hours.
- Trade the infinite scroll for a book.
- Stop "favoriting" and start doing.

2015. I landed in LA with no roadmap. Just a drive to make things happen. I freelanced, hustled, slowly started carving a path for myself.

One of my first big ideas was starting a documentary YouTube series called The Doc Docs. We went deep on niche corners of culture and society, talking with forward-thinking people and brands. One early episode was about Just Float, the world’s largest float therapy center. We immersed ourselves, exploring how sensory deprivation can support mental clarity. This helped me discover a passion for wellness.

Those early LA days were hard but full of lessons. Every project taught me something about people, about myself, about how powerful storytelling can be.

The path got clear, and Hak Media was born. I’ve been lucky to create with major brands and with forward-thinking practices doing impactful work in the world.

If you’re building from scratch right now, keep going. The reel builds, the voice sharpens, and the right people start to find you.

If you create for a living, it’s easy to convince yourself you need more input. But in this age, consuming is a slippery slope.

Sometimes the best creative fuel is getting away from the screen and into your life: real conversations, real experiences, real emotion.

Because anything you regurgitate from media is already a skewed version of reality.

Your lived experience is the raw source.

A lesson I learned early:

I had a chance to move up in my first TV job... But when someone truly believes in you, they won’t try to keep you small to keep you close.

I told my boss my dream was LA, but I was scared to take the leap.
She said: “Go. If it doesn’t work out, there’s always a place for you back here.”

That level of support is rare.
Be the kind of person who gives people permission to grow.
