I’m not saying that you don’t know what’s going on with yourself. I am, however, encouraging you to take a closer look. By definition, to be mindful is to have an awareness of your thoughts, feelings, sensations, and surroundings. You are aware and can observe all of those things with curiosity- not judgement. Not trying to change it per se. One of the best ways to tune in is to perform a body scan. Get somewhere where you can be still, quiet, and alone for a few minutes. Get comfortable, maybe use and pillow and/or blanket, light a candle if you have time- whatever helps you relax. Take a few deep breaths in and out, then close your eyes. You can start at your head or feet (or anywhere in between), and simply check in with each part of your body. Notice any tension? Pain? Hot? Cold? Itchy? Any areas that are completely at ease? Notice how you feel while continuing to breathe deeply. Thank your body for speaking to you. When you’re ready, open your eyes and ease back into reality. It’s that simple. This is one of my favorite things to do, it’s interesting to notice where you might be holding tension without being aware of it. And then even better to release that before continuing on your way. Have you ever done a body scan? I’m happy to guide you through it. Let me know if you’d like to try it.
