An important message from President Stewart:

Dear students,

Over the last few weeks, the University has shared its comprehensive plans for ensuring that we all have a safe and successful fall semester while dealing with the reality of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Because of the significant challenges associated with COVID-19, following the guidelines we have laid out is paramount to allowing UM to offer an in-person, on-campus experience this fall.

I sincerely appreciate those who have adhered to the safety guidelines the University has laid out, but I am also aware that some have chosen to ignore them.

As we have seen in our state and nation over the past couple of weeks, several universities have been forced to close or move to all-online formats because students did not take safety protocols seriously.

I can not overstate how crucial it is for each and every one of us to take personal responsibility for our health and the health of those around us, whether on campus or off campus.

Until further notice, masks will be required indoors and outdoors on campus at all times except in private residence hall rooms, alone in private offices, alone in private automobiles and during strenuous exercise.

We are particularly concerned about off-campus gatherings/parties. We are learning this has been the source of virus spread that has forced other campuses to send students home.

For those who continue to disregard these important COVID-19 safety protocols, including the hosting of off-campus gatherings, the University is prepared to suspend individual students, student groups, teams and organizations. The UM administration is also prepared to further restrict housing, dining and student activities if safety guidelines are not followed.

Students who do not adhere to COVID-19 policies will be removed from classes and housing, if applicable, and will be refused service in campus offices and departments. Students who are suspended as a result of COVID-19 violations will not receive any refunds.

All COVID-19 related behavioral violations will be adjudicated expeditiously through our student conduct process to ensure campus safety.

Please know that I am counting on you to do your part in keeping our campus family safe and healthy. Again, I am grateful to our wonderful students who are adhering to the COVID-19 policies and look forward to a great semester – together.

❗️Attention Students❗️
If you have already provided a COVID-19 test result to the University, you may disregard this message. If you have been COVID-19 tested and have received your results, please submit them to [email protected].

Students whose re-entry COVID-19 test results through GuideSafe or from a private practitioner have not been received by the time they arrive on campus will be automatically moved to the University's first campus COVID-19 testing group for the semester. Campus testing is free to students and will be held in the McChesney Student Activity Center at the times indicated below.

All students who have not provided a COVID-19 test result to the University and are planning to either take classes in-person or utilize campus facilities are expected to participate in this first round of campus testing. Residential students who have not provided a test should plan to be tested at the first available time after move-in. Housing and Residence Life staff will assist residential students in determining the best time to be tested upon arrival to campus. Commuter students who have not provided a test result should plan to be tested at any of the following times. Students will need to present a photo ID. Only students who receive a positive test result will be notified after testing.

Friday, Aug. 21 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday, Aug. 22 from noon to 5 p.m.
Monday, Aug. 24 from noon to 5 p.m.
Tuesday, Aug. 25 from noon to 5 p.m.

Residential students are required to participate in the campus testing program in order to remain in the residence halls. Students who refuse to participate in campus testing will be subject to progressive discipline through the Office of Student Conduct. More information about campus testing will be provided to students throughout the semester. Be sure to check your UM email, and monitor the UM website and social media outlets.

The University of Montevallo is proud to be one of Alabama’s safest college campuses, and we’ve been working hard all summer to prepare for your return to campus. Here are just a few things we’re doing to keep our UM family safe and healthy this fall:
☑️ Face coverings are required. Every student, faculty and staff member will be provided with a reusable face mask.
☑️ Signage and pathways have been laid out throughout campus buildings encouraging social distancing.
☑️ Cleaning protocols have been increased across campus.
☑️ Class schedules have been optimized to create lower density classrooms.
☑️ Physical barriers, such as plexiglass, have been installed in certain areas.
☑️ Campus meetings and events will be virtual.
☑️ Falcon Healthcheck will be used to help our campus community easily monitor their health.

Today, we stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our Black colleagues here at the University of Montevallo and with the entire community in a bond of respect as we celebrate Juneteenth.

This year’s Juneteenth comes with special significance, as we all acknowledge this extraordinarily important time in our civil rights history and our nation’s struggle for racial equity and justice.

In our video, we discuss the importance of this date, and we encourage everyone to learn more about everything Juneteenth represents.

Please see below for an important message from President Stewart.

Dear Montevallo Family,

Today, I write to you with a heavy heart, discouraged beyond measure over the senseless death of George Floyd-- the latest tragedy in a long-standing and unfortunate history of racial injustice in our country.

The University of Montevallo has a lengthy and proud history of acceptance, inclusion and unity and we actively work every day to dismantle the barriers of inequality in our community and across the nation. We are an institution where all ideas are welcome and disparate viewpoints encouraged, unless hurtful or extreme.

We condemn violence in any of its manifestations.

Now is our time to stand together as a University family against racism and violence toward people of color. In the coming weeks I will meet with student, faculty, staff and volunteer board leaders to determine how the University family can engage to the fullest extent possible in the struggle to overcome discrimination and prejudice.

When we say “You Belong at Montevallo,” it’s not just an empty slogan. Each and every member of the Montevallo family possesses a deep conviction to provide a better future for students from all ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. We reject the kind of hate that led to the killing of George Floyd and so many other Black men and women in America. This absolutely must come to an end and we are all called to do our part.

I believe with all my heart that education is our greatest hope for a more peaceful, harmonious country. Our students, children and grandchildren deserve our best selves at this crucial moment in history-our better angels must prevail.

Graduates, wherever this message finds you, know that a very special day is coming soon. Although we should be celebrating together today, wherever you are, you should be proud of all that you have achieved and become on these brick streets you call home.

This class has overcome an unprecedented challenge—you have adapted and never stopped moving forward and that is a true strength of a liberal arts education.

On August 7, we hope to be together again to officially mark this milestone in your lives. It will be joyful for this now quiet campus to hear your excitement and laughter once again.

Wherever you are, you will always belong at Montevallo. 💜🎓💛 #MontevalloGrad2020

Here's a job opening on campus:
MC students, if you're looking for a scholarship, here's one- Strong Hall would be a great place to apply this!
Hi all, I am currently in search of a student voice-over actress for an instructional video. The video is for a software company that specializes in utility poles. The ideal candidate is a female student who has access to a quality mic, sense of professionalism, and an awareness or willingness to learn voice-over standards. At this time it is unpaid; however, if you exceed expectation I will see what my boss can do. Please, email me at [email protected] for further inquiry.
look what I found:
We now have Key, Back, & Fill lights.
UM Students: We are going to screen student produced short horror movies on October 27 at 7:30pm. See Mr. Brook Pruitt for more details. There will also be a costume contest.
