University of Montevallo Mass Communication Program

University of Montevallo Mass Communication Program UM's Mass Communication Program features two concentrations for majors to choose from: Multimedia Journalism and Broadcast Production.

The Mass Communication Program teaches the knowledge and skills necessary to enter the fields of radio, television, newspapers, magazines, advertising, video production, corporate or governmental media relations, and web-related communication. The convergence of traditional mass media and the Internet has highlighted the importance of critical thinking, creativity, and effective writing. Career success depends upon adapting to constantly changing technology.

β€œI would say my favorite MC memories were getting to work with the BEA club on so many wonderful films and having the opportunity to write and co-direct the Digital Filmmaking capstone film, β€˜Phantom Pain,’ alongside one of my best friends, Braxton Johnson,” Walker says.

Walker plans to keep writing and making films. He’s also pursuing jobs as an entertainment journalist.

His favorite Mass Comm memory is working on the campus newscast, Vallo Vision News, over the last year. β€œI’ve wanted to anchor ever since I stepped foot on campus,” Preston says, β€œbut I also love the relationships I built with my classmates and professors! It truly does feel like a family!”

Preston plans to pursue his master’s degree in secondary education and becoming an English teacher and coach.
