U.S. News & World Report ranks UM as Alabama’s top Best Value for In-State Students and No. 6 in the South.

UM’s 2027 Best Value ranking makes it Alabama’s only higher education institution to earn a Top 10 ranking for six years in a row, according to a statement from the university.

“The University of Montevallo takes pride for being recognized for the value it provides to students and their families,” UM President Dr. Michelle Johnston said in the statement. “It’s more important than ever for students to maximize their return on investment in higher education.”

In the Southern region, UM also ranks No. 19 for Top Public Schools, No. 37 in the South overall, and No. 21 for Best Colleges for Veterans.

Instead of the sounds of students going to class, campus was filled with the buzz of chainsaws Wednesday as crews worked to remove the trees that fell across campus and clean up other debris.

Drone footage shows the scope of some of the storm damage across campus. Many of the historic trees were toppled by high winds during Tuesday evening’s powerful thunderstorm.

UM plans to resume normal operations tomorrow.

Cleanup efforts across campus are underway. To give crews and utility workers space to work, UM is transitioning to e-learning and remote work for the day, according to an email sent Wednesday to students, faculty and staff.

🚨 UM will delay opening Wednesday, Sept. 23, until 10 a.m. because of multiple large trees down across campus.

Physical Plant employees will start removing debris at 7 Wednesday morning, according to an email from UM.

Dining services will operate as usual.
