On Thursday, Oct. 9, 2025, the University of Montevallo celebrated its 129th Founders’ Day.

The ceremony began on Main Quad, where the faculty led seniors on the short walk to Palmer Auditorium.

Interim President Dr. Terry Roberson called the group of students who found the crook to the stage to be recognized during the ceremony.

This year’s keynote address was given by Dr. Courtney Bentley, Provost & Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs.

“The education you’re receiving here is preparing you to be resilient, adaptable, timeless,” she told the Class of 2026.

Following her keynote, Dr. Bentley led the investiture of the Senior class, which included reciting the class pledge and putting on their graduation gowns for the first time.

Dr. Clark Hultquist, Professor of History, was then recognized as the 2025 University Scholar. In his remarks, he chose not to talk about his research, but instead focused on his students.

“In the classroom for the last 28 years, you have encouraged me. You have inspired me. You’ve laughed at me. You’ve laughed with me – sometimes,” he said.

You can rewatch the entire ceremony on the “MontevalloForYou” YouTube channel.
