This issue "floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee" - Deep River's Gwen Van Dee shares her passion for monarchs, and our Bee Ladies share some kind words like honey; this issue is a direct hit - whether it's by a chair to the head in the ring at Live Pro Wrestling - Iowa’s Wrestling's Fight Night in Montezuma or it's an arrow to the target of Deep River's Jason Ross' State Championship; this issue is a salute - both to Governor Reynolds during the Veteran's Day parade at the Iowa State Fair and to the 70-year Legion membership awards and Quilt of Valor presented by Montezuma American Legion Post 169 and American Legion Morrison-Schrader Post 296 Deep River, Iowa; this issue is a nagging memory and a happy mistake - just read our columns; this issue is chock-full of content and important news, none more important than the power of being thankful - because thankfulness can make it through the fire.

We hope you enjoy this week's issue of The Record. We sure enjoyed putting it together for you!

*EDIT: We apologize for some printing issues in this week's paper - a few of our ads went and jumped off the pages after being sent for print. Don't worry, they'll make their way back next week - and every week - in The Record!

Voters in Montezuma Community School District, here's a chance to inform yourself of the proposed infrastructure improvements at the school, and be part of the process. School officials and board members are making themselves available for any concerns and questions. If you can't make the meeting, contact Superintendent Schulte to schedule a time for him to come and speak to your group.

If you didn't happen to catch it on WHO Radio, fiddle player and U.S. Representative Ashley Hinson just gave a shoutout to Deep River's Tyler Richton & The High Bank Boys. We're pretty proud of our locally grown talent here in Poweshiek County!

Okay, this might hurt a little - this week's poll question asks how many unread emails are currently in your inbox? When you're done counting, head over and vote at montezumarecord.com/post/record-poll-of-the-week

This week, The Record steps into the ring in preparation for Live Pro Wrestling - Iowa’s Wrestling Fight Night in Montezuma on Saturday. We get caught in the nets with the bats at Poweshiek County Conservation. We set up the scaffolding at one of the many construction projects around City of Brooklyn, IA, City of Montezuma, and Jansen Chiropractic - Dr. Tanner Jansen. Well, we might not be doing those things literally, but we're covering them! Plus, Montezuma Community Development holds a ribbon cutting at Evelyn’s Floral, Montezuma Community School District Class of 1970 reunites, and Poweshiek County Historical and Genealogical Society shares about one of Montezuma's first settlers. From fair coverage to "Pull up a chair with Pat," this paper has it all, including three new subscribers, and first-time advertisers.

News from your communties in a paper we can all enjoy - right here in The Record!

As you'll read in this week's Record, it was all about bats at Fox Forest last Friday Night! County Conservation hosted a program on bats - featuring Central College Professor Russ Benedict - followed by bat netting at Fox Forest, where enthusiasts of all ages got an up-close look (and feel) of the furry, winged mammal. There were too many pictures to print in the paper, so we're sharing some here, as well!

"Our State Fair is a great State Fair! Don't miss it, don't even be late!"

Are you already there, walking along the Grand Concourse? Are you reading this on your drive to the parking lot? Or perhaps you're waiting for nicer weather to enjoy the fair. Regardless, we want you to weigh in on this week's Record Poll of the Week - that is, when you're not eating a corndog!
