Another big week, filled with helicopters over Diamond Lake as Poweshiek County Conservation combats honeysuckle and makes plans for lake restoration. It's a community center and Legion building filled with thanks for our veterans. It's a sky filled with color. It's a Bingo card filled with winning numbers at the inaugural Montezuma Community Development Kids Bingo. It's a toolbox at SRC Customs filled with potential. It's a lap filled with a Quilt of Valor. It's an olympic-sized story filled with possibility.

And that's just the front and back page of The Record. It's filled with even more good news and great stories from our communities in between! Happy reading!

Just when you think something can't get more beautiful, tomorrow happens! This is Publishers' Choice for best tree of the season, and not just because we live next to it. Know of a better one? Prove it with a picture in the comments below.

If there's a theme in this week's Record, it's honor.
Defined, honor can mean profound respect, and we see that in Road Trip Coffee Co.'s donation to the Poweshiek County Sheriff's Office 's K-9 unit, or in how well-run Montezuma Community Development's Fall Fest was! It's honoring history, as MHS '88 Alum Chris Raynor does. And even though we're not big spooksters, we have to give credit where credit is due in applauding the Higginbothams on their backyard Halloweentown!
Honor also means showing high esteem. How much higher can Montezuma FFA go, as they've added two more National Championships to their coffers? Poweshiek County officials were honored to host Eddie Andrews for Iowa at the courthouse. And Community School District and BGM Jr.-Sr. High School left it all on the field in their playoff games.
Lastly, honor is recognizing the intrinsic value of something - it's weight, or glory - and this is where the paper gets heavy. We prepare to honor our veterans with appreciation dinners and assemblies. We honor Rodney Morse on his promotion to Senior Master Sergeant. And we honor the memory of veterans no longer with us.
At the end of the day, it's our absolute honor to deliver this paper, to tell these stories, and share from our hearts. And we're honored for you to read it.
