It's harvest season in Iowa, and it's a bumber crop of stories in this week's Record. Let's start with the seed, shall we? Montezuma FCA is sowing seeds all over Badger Gabriel at its Fields of Faith event. Things take root, like Poweshiek County Historical and Genealogical Society's presentation of Deep River's roots in the Village of Dresden. Then, we start to branch off, with the help of RSVP Volunteer Iowa Coordinator Ashley Sorensen. There's the shade provided by Iowa Department of Natural Resources Stewardship Plan of Hawthorn Lake, which catches the eye of Poweshiek County Conservation Naturalist Amy Durbin in her monthly column. Montezuma Speech and Musicals is preparing the equipment for the field (or the big show), and we're all anxiously awaiting the harvest parties this Saturday at Montezuma Public Library's STEAM Festival and Trunk-or-Treat at Diamond Lake.

We're excited about the new offshoots growing as new subscribers. And for those who fell off the wagon and forgot to renew at the end of September, don't worry, there are extra copies at the stands. Better yet, stop by the office or go to montezumarecord.com/subscribe and renew.

Enjoy the bounty, read The Record!

This week, The Record takes a look under the hood. Literally, we saw the engines of the 153 cars at the Montezuma American Legion Post 169 Car Show, but we also mean it figuratively. We found out what went into Poweshiek County 4-H 's decision to relocate the office to Grinnell in November (spoiler: it's about potential growth). We got an aside with gubernatorial candidate Rob Sand for Iowa before his Montezuma Town Hall. We dug into the numbers behind BGM Jr.-Sr. High School and Montezuma Community School District 's academic profile successes. And we got first-hand (or first-boot) experience on the dance floor for Montezuma Community Development 's inaugural line dancing event.

We're no mechanics, but we've kicked the tires, and this week is no lemon. So hop on in and enjoy the ride of this week's Record! Don't forget to buckle up!

Simone's column calls for "More speech," so, this issue is filled to the brim with words. We congratulate the king, queen, and their court on a successful Montezuma Homecoming, including a big Braves win! We tell the story of Brooklyn Food Pantry and its service to the community. We applaud BGM Jr.-Sr. High School for its high-performing academic profile, and we tease next week's story about Montezuma Community School District top honors in the elementary. We hear from a slate of Democratic candidates at Pow Dems' Cookies with Candidates. We count the Bravettes' nine (yes, nine) game winning streak. We thank Montezuma State Bank and First State Bank for their customer-appreciation meals. And we laugh, because Derek's column says its good for us. We've made space for our city, school, and county governments - because they tend to the matters that affect you most. We're giving our communities a microphone - a megaphone - because we believe what you say matters! Read it all in this week's Record!
