On a very serious note, and I do NOT broach this subject lightly, I’d like to take just a few lines to remind my friends of something I think is quite important.
I no longer have young children, and the fact is that me and my wife raised our children in a very different, very much safer, home atmosphere than that in which children are being raised today.
In our day there was no internet, no social media, no around the clock cell phones with which we were connected to the entire world every single minute of the day.
Yet even in our day there were bad people, people who wanted to change the world by any means necessary. Thank God our kids were not exposed to the things that children today encounter on a daily basis.
We don’t like to think about it, and when we do we tell ourselves that bad influences could never gain a foothold in the lives of our children.
But they can. And they do.
I know we all believe we know every web site, every chat room, every friend, our children are in contact with. But the sad truth is, we don’t.
We don’t take the time to monitor our children’s internet visits, and especially not their friends.
We should.
I also know many if you will see it as an invasion of their privacy, and I know each of us really believe our children are incapable of being influenced by on line forces that are not good. And I believe many of them will not be so influenced. But some will.
We live in unstable times, times when bad people will use any means to disrupt our lives. We all know this is truth.
All I ask is for you to be diligent in monitoring whom your children are in contact with. What they are being told on social media and in chat rooms and innocent appearing videos that so many watch every single day.
Not everyone is as concerned about your children as you are. Not everyone has their best interests in mind. There are those who seek to indoctrinate them into ideas and ways of life and they use social media as their primary way of doing this.
Our values are being corrupted and corroded here in this country, and one of the best ways to at least slow this down is to know what our kids are learning via social media.
A cell phone for a young child may not be the smartest of idea. You have no way of knowing what they will be exposed to when they are out of your sight.
I’m not asking you to take away their phones or to invade their privacy, but I am asking you to double down in your vigilance, to block certain sites from them, to actively pursue ways to keep your children from hearing and seeing things you don’t wish them to hear and see.
I keep hearing that we need to bring God back into our country. I can tell you right now social media isn’t doing that.
Don’t just SAY you know what your children are doing, make it a point to check for yourselves.
There may come a time when you’ll wish you did.
BTW, TIK TOK is owned and operated by information gathering powers in CHINA. They carefully examine everything that is posted, and use that info to create a complete profile on all of the Apps users. We have no control over how they use our information nor what their end game is.
