Walk begins at at the Train Shed: 210 Water Street, Montgomery, AL

ABOUT:
Please join us on Tuesday, December, 23, 2025, as venerable monks continue their 2,300 mile Walk for Peace in Montgomery, and honor/revere all who have participated in and/or given their lives to peace and justice efforts.

7:45am
Community members can meet up with the monks as they begin their walk at the Train Shed, 210 Water Street
First stop will be the National Memorial for Peace and Justice, 417 Carolie Street, for Prayer Offering, to honor lives lost
Second stop will be the Court Street Fountain, Court Square/Dexter Avenue, for Prayer Offering, to honor lives lost

8:30/9am (est. time)
Third stop will be City Hall steps, 103 N Perry Street, for Peace Gathering, including:

Montgomery, AL — The City of Montgomery’s Sanitation Department reminds residents of its holiday sanitation pickup schedule. These changes are designed to improve operational efficiency and provide clarity for residents during holiday weeks.

To accommodate the holiday and streamline operations, the City of Montgomery’s Sanitation Department will implement the following changes during the following holidays:

Christmas Week

Holiday Closures
Thursday, December 25, 2025 (Christmas Day)
Friday, December 26, 2025

Green Can Pickup
Monday & Thursday Routes: Serviced Monday, December 22 only
Tuesday & Friday Routes: Serviced Tuesday, December 23 only

Curbside Trash Pickup
No curbside trash pickup will be scheduled during Christmas Week.

New Year’s Week

Holiday Closures
Thursday, January 1, 2026 (New Year’s Day)

Green Can Pickup
Monday & Thursday Routes: Serviced Monday, December 29 only
Tuesday & Friday Routes: Serviced Tuesday, December 30 only

Curbside Trash Pickup
No curbside trash pickup will be scheduled during New Year’s Week.

These changes reflect the City’s commitment to streamlining services and ensuring residents are informed well in advance. The updated schedule has been posted on the City’s official Sanitation Department webpage, and residents are encouraged to review it for full details.

Additionally, the Water Works Department will begin including reminders about the new schedule in upcoming water/trash bills.

“We appreciate the community’s cooperation as we implement these changes,” said Lucinda Babers, Chief Operating Officer for the Office of Mayor Steven L. Reed. “Our goal is to make sanitation services more predictable and efficient during the holidays.”
