The game has changed a bit.
A while back, I did almost everything you can do to turn a golf cart into an off road capable electric hunting buggy. $20,000 it certainly is a beast of a golf cart. But, it is still a golf cart.

Volcon, an electric off road company out of Austin, TX peaked my interest a few years ago and I preordered one of their Stag units. It arrived last week.

I can tell you right now, this is a game changing vehicle with SERIOUS high end automotive grade suspension with incredible ability. I buried it in mud, I submerged it in water, and I ran the Hidden Falls Adventure Park in Marble Falls, TX. Holy crap it’s worth the money.

We paired the Volcon Stag with some Sure Grip gun racks, an Autel Thermal Drone, and Pulsar thermal optics and binos… and the hogs couldn’t hide from us on a 2700 acre ranch. As an added feature, the Stag comes with a Garmin Tread Overland unit, and I added Rigid IR spotlights and a front mounted BC50 night vision wireless camera that communicates with the Tread. We can effectively creep down ranch roads and see 300 yards ahead by the screen with no lights on.

It’s a hefty $50k price tag but I must say you will not regret it. I ran it on the Volcon test track w NASCAR driver Nick Cole and he about made me change my shorts, and that gave me the confidence to take it out into the trails.

Well we tried a run with Covert cams tonight in the Hill country. The view was tight and they were fast, but two shooters took 4 or 5 of the 7 that were there. We recovered 4 and one crashed down the hill into thick brush, so we will say 4 confirmed. Parked and walked 350 yards up down a rocky road with wind noise as cover.

Had a little midweek getaway to the hill country with my wife... and convinced her to let me bring the golf cart. Took a short drive down the driveway and didn’t get 500 yds from the house when this boar volunteered to give his life. He never heard the cart and died smiling.

Using the texting game cameras, we took out a few more property vandals in a thickly wooded ranch over the past few days...

So I’ve found the limits of an EZ-GO txt, and we are now on to serious reinforcement. 1/8 in metal didn’t last long on rear suspension pivot points. I modified a police spotlight handle to hold my pulsar, and it broadcasts through WiFi to a tablet on the dash. It’s great for scanning fields, but no good for tight areas.
