August 25, 2026:

Film students at Jasper County High School started the school year with a field trip to the 21th annual Macon Film Festival at the Macon Museum of Arts and Sciences. Forty students in the Audio, Video, and Film CTAE pathway viewed six films ranging from 5 to 19 minutes each produced by high school and college filmmakers across the country in the "Student Shorts" block.

First-year film student Adalie Ganong reflected that "the Macon Film Festival made me learn many different things about the film world. I watched all kinds of creative films and listened to filmmakers as they gave us advice."

The JCHS students participated in a Q&A with filmmakers from the Georgia Film Academy after the screenings. JCHS Film student Reagan Jackson was inspired, saying "I got to ask questions about things I like about film. It was great to hear people with experience in the film industry talk about their experiences with big films."

The students also attended the “Space Explorers: The ISS Experience" at the museum's planetarium fulldome theater, an epic immersive film shot entirely in space that profiled eight astronauts on their lifechanging missions aboard the International Space Station. First-year film student Adam Slaton quipped, "The planetarium was amazing -- the visuals of the ISS were almost as good as the [Ingleside Village] pizza we had for lunch."

April 23, 2026:

JCHS Film students Ryan Morris and Mercer Oxford filmed the 3rd annual Jasper Jubilee Fashion Show at Thomas Persons Hall. They used two cameras for a wide shot of the entire stage and a more closeup shot of each performer. They "edited" the shots on the fly using a Blackmagic ATEM Mini Pro switcher to change the camera views in real time (the setup can be seen pictured on the chair).

The Fashion Show can be viewed on the JCHS Film YouTube channel at:

April 10, 2026:

Nine JCHS Film students joined several Georgia College film students for a full day of collaborative filmmaking. JCHS Film teacher Tyson Harty and GCSU Assistant Professor and Advisor to Bobcat Media Productions Michael Crews designed the activity last fall where students from each instittuion submitted 4 page original film scripts to each other. One high school script ("OOGA" about a time traveling caveman with a penchant for rap music) and one college script ("ALMA" about the misadventures of an office AI assistant) were chosen to film on GCSU's campus. Combined teams of high school and college students ran the productions, while learning new techniques from each other. The films will be edited by the students and screened at GCSU on May 6.
