JCHS Film produced the inaugural Student-Faculty Quiz Off Competition. The teams were five versus five (with substitutions allowed), answering buzzer-style a series of fast paced questions ranging from science and history to sports and pop culture. Master Luke McFarland channeled his inner Alex Trebeck as the host. It was a tough battle, but the students prevailed by mere 10 points . . .

There's this giant wall made of plywood that suddenly went up at the high school, blocking a hallway exit. Some say it has to do with construction of our new CTAE wing to open Fall 2026, but the JCHS Film students weren't so sure . . . they spent a good week producing short films to figure it all out.

Here's some behind-the-scenes teasers of what may be coming . . .

Film students at Jasper County High School started the school year with a field trip to the 20th annual Macon Film Festival at the Macon Museum of Arts and Sciences. Twenty-four students in the Audio, Video, and Film CTAE pathway viewed nine films ranging from 4 to 16 minutes each produced by high school and college filmmakers across the country in the "Student Shorts" block.

First-year film student Grace Daniel reflected on the “sheer amount of different things a film could be, informational like a documentary or entertaining like the ones we watched that day.”

The JCHS students also participated in a Q&A with a local documentary filmmaker after the screenings. JCHS Film student Tyler Robinson was inspired by the advice that, "You can pick up a phone today and get with a group of friends and film almost anything."

The students also attended the “Art Immersive Shorts” film block at the museum's planetarium fulldome theater, which included a 25-minute short, "Secrets from a Forest," an inspiring story about felling the perfect trees in Italian forests to gather the wood to craft replicas of the Stradivarius violin inside a modern luthier's studio.

JCHS Film produces original short films, documentaries, local business promos, and a school/community news show. The JCHS Film program is a three-year career tech pathway by Dr. Tyson Harty. JCHS also offers complementary courses in “Dramatic Writing for Film, Television, and Theatre" and “Dramatic Arts” courses taught by Luke McFarland.
