🏐 The first victories of the Chloe Schwalbe era are in the books.

Monticello volleyball defeated Osakis and Royalton during Saturday’s Sauk Rapids-Rice Invitational, giving the Monticello Magic their first two wins of the season.

🏃 Monticello’s Lauren Rengel had led the Magic girls in their previous race, but teammate Kylie Lindberg moved to the front at Saturday’s Monticello Invitational.

Lindberg placed third and Rengel finished fourth as the Monticello Magic girls took fifth at Bertram Regional Park. Brenden Skistad led the boys with another top-10 finish.

UPDATE: Wright County prosecutors have dismissed both assault charges against Monticello resident Shannon Forsberg, saying new evidence left the state unable to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.

Forsberg denied assaulting the man and disputed the allegation that she caused his dental injury, saying it was self-inflicted. The case is now closed.

⚽ Monticello’s soccer teams faced their toughest week of the young season.

The Monticello Magic boys earned a 2-0 shutout over North Branch before falling 2-1 to Rogers. The previously unbeaten girls lost a close match to Brainerd and battled Buffalo to a 1-1 draw.

🌊 Low water on the Mississippi River gave volunteers a rare chance to clean areas that are normally submerged.

Nearly 40 volunteers collected several hundred pounds of glass, discarded clothing and other trash from the riverfront in Monticello and near Becker during Xcel Energy’s annual Day of Service. 🗑️💪

🎾 Monticello girls tennis earned two hard-fought conference victories last week, edging Chisago Lakes and Cambridge-Isanti by identical 4-3 scores.

Singles wins helped carry the Monticello Magic in both matches, while the doubles teams delivered when the outcome was on the line.

🐾🍂 Short-legged racers stole the show at the second annual Harvest & Hops Festival, which brought polka music, German-inspired food, family activities and plenty of Oktoberfest flair to Fresh Acres Farm in Monticello Saturday. 🍺🎶

The new OktoberFAST races featured corgis, dachshunds and other low-riding competitors — some speedy, some easily distracted and all entertaining. 🐶🏁

A 27-year-old Big Lake man was taken to Mercy Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries following a four-vehicle crash this morning on Highway 10 in Elk River. The other three drivers were not injured.

🏈 The drought is over.

Monticello’s defense repeatedly turned Alexandria away from the end zone Friday as the Magic earned a 22-6 victory — their first win over the rival Cardinals since 2015.

Cale Holthaus rushed for 166 yards and two touchdowns, while Carson Deibele and Jeron Schlangen each intercepted a pass.

“It’s a special group,” coach Andy Pierskalla said.
