🤝 After nearly a year without a contract, Monticello teachers and the school district have officially reached the finish line.

The Monticello School Board unanimously approved a new two-year teachers contract tonight, following an 81% ratification vote by Education Minnesota - Monticello members last week.

The agreement includes salary increases of 1.9% and 2% over two years, a one-year step freeze, insurance changes and the return of flex-time provisions.

The vote came in stark contrast to recent meetings that drew packed crowds of teachers and supporters. With the contract already approved by union members, only a handful of attendees were present as the board formally ratified the deal.

☕🚗 A coffee chain known for long drive-thru lines elsewhere in Minnesota could soon be headed to Monticello.

The Planning Commission has recommended approval for a proposed 7 Brew Coffee location on Highway 25.

The Arkansas-based chain has grown to more than 700 locations nationwide and specializes in a drive-thru-only model serving coffee, energy drinks, teas, lemonades, smoothies and shakes. The proposal would replace the existing commercial building with a freestanding beverage stand.

Traffic was a major topic during the review, with city officials discussing long lines reported at some recently opened Minnesota locations and how the company plans to manage demand if the project moves forward.
