Friends of Vermont's working lands: call your legislators TODAY to let them know you want them to support the Working Lands Coalition's request that the legislature appropriate $3 million for the Working Lands Enterprise Initiative (WLEI). To understand how that funding impacts our state, take a look through the 2024 WLEI Impact Report. The fact that stood out to us is that these grants help farmers and foresters access twice as much funding from other sources.

The Governor's proposed budget suggested funding of $1M; our legislators can increase the total funding to $3M in order to match the funds that the program had last year. In FY24 the Fund had $3M and distributed that funding in grants that supported farmers and foresters in developing their business, improving their products, and gaining new skills. Those 2024 grants helped working lands access an additional $6.3M in matching funds... What an impactful program! There is clear need for the program, too: there were over $16M in grant application requests in 2024 alone.
