The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for 26 counties in parts of central and northwest Minnesota effective today, May 8, from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. due to extreme fire risk conditions.

Affected counties include Becker, Benton, Big Stone, Cass, Chippewa, Clay, Crow Wing, Douglas, Grant, Kanabec, Kandiyohi, Lac Qui Parle, Mahnomen, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Norman, Otter Tail, Pope, Sherburne, Stearns, Stevens, Swift, Todd, Traverse, Wadena, and Wilkin.

Residents should not burn in counties where a Red Flag Warning is in effect and should also check any recent burning they did to ensure the fire is completely out.

Ogilvie's Kadence Pierce, daughter of Shane and Randy Pierce, and Carter Magaard, son of Derek and Kelly Magaard, signed their letters of intent on Thursday to continue their post-secondary athletic careers. Kadence will major in biology and play basketball at St. Ambrose University in Iowa, and Carter will major in accounting and play football at the University of Northwestern in St. Paul. Congratulations to them, their coaches, their family, and their friends.

Wednesday morning, we had the opportunity to celebrate with Mora athletes Jenna Lukenbill, Ashley Norberg and Ronan Mauer as they signed their letters of intent to continue their athletic career at their respective universities. Jenna will attend St. Cloud State University to major in sports management and be part of the track and field team; Ashley will continue her volleyball career at Hamline and will major in forensic science; and Ronan will join the baseball team at UW River Falls, where he will major in community development.
