The 1980's

What was it like in the 1980's? First of all we had disco. It was very popular and we had disco bands, outfits, dances, and even shows with disco. The world has changed since the 1980's. Sadly, children including teens were allowed to be hit both by parents and school teachers. The first time my stepson came home from not listening in shop, the teacher gave him three wacks on his backside. I was shocked. Our course, in the 1980's you didn't have AI or a a computer of your very own. You still did real research for school either at the library, in school or from encyclopedias. The worst part about the 1980's was that smoking was allowed everywhere. I was walking the other day and saw a woman smoking. I couldn't believe it. Even in sections of Las Vegas smoking is not allowed, just in all the casinos. There were no personal cell phones. You spoke on a land line long distance and the charges were outrageous. I remember calling my father-in-law one Suday when everyone was out. I was in Texas and he was in California. He said hello and then asked why I was calling, and if anything was wrong. I told him no that everything was fine and I wanted to see how he was. He told me he was fine and that long distance was too expensive so he hung up. I was crushed. I always enjoyed talking to him. You also had to be find the movies or events in the newspaper. No online back them. This was also true as there were no movies in the Good Gus series. The books have good stories that children enjoy in e-book or paperback. "Misplaced Trust" will let you know the ins and outs of the fallout in an estate plan after a person passes in e-book. The Good Gus Series is available online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones. Addictions

When anyone thinks about addictions, they think about the hard drugs such as he**in. The trouble with life now is that drugs seem to be readily available. You often hear about celebrities getting high on co***ne. Those are just a few. I remember reading about it the 1950's with housewives on va**um, and other relaxing drugs. I was given that one time in the hospital to get my pain to slow down and instead I was truly sick. I was allergic. Gambling is a strong addiction. People believe they are going to win and then they lose everything. I saw a TV show the other day where an addict for gambling would convince the others in gamblers annonymous to go to the track and he would give them the best horses for a cut of the win. Nice guy!Let's not leave out smoking and drinking. They are old standbys. The smoking not so much any more as it is forbidden in many locations. Alcohol is available everywhere so it is an easy purchase. A drink now and again is one thing, but killing a whole bottle is something else. Do you have any addicts in your family? Addictions and drugs were available during the Good Gus era just not in any of my books. Start immediately with an e-book. "Misplaced Trust" did have addicts. Often they would call four to five times a day at the office asking for their inheritance. It was a great day when it finally came through. Read it in e-boo. Body Shaming

Body shaming in wrong and unjustified. People can insult another person with body shaming about weight, looks, clothes, food, hair, and so much more. If you wonder about food, it starts in elementary school. Another child or a group will make fun of or criticize someone's lunch. In a few videos I have seen the younger children share their lunches to the child that has no food. Then there are others who make fun of them for the quality of their food. I used to eat secretly because by the time I reached junior high, there were cafeterias and I didn't have the money to pay. I would hide out so that no one saw me with a simple sandwhich. Body shaming of hair takes a variety of forms. I have a relative whose daughter is bald. She is cute but public school is just too hurtful. She does have real friends and participates in activities but is careful where she goes and what she does. Body shaming with clothes is difficult. Mostly girls have this issue. I had it from sixth grade until I was about tenth grade when I babysat and could afford decent clothes. Sadly it is still true today. Varying sizes in weight have little or miserable amounts of body shaming. They should learn as a weight problem could happen to them. What do you think of body shaming? There was no body shaming in the Good Gus series. I have stories with all types of ethnicities and sizes of characters. Give it a try in e-book or paperback. "Misplaced Trust" is more about how to lie, cheat, steal and insult. Give it a read in e-book. The Good Gus Series is available online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones. Estate Plans

Estate plans are important to individuals who own property or have large sums of money in bank accouts. Besides writing this is what I do everyday. Not to mention "Misplaced Trust" discusses the importance of an estate plan and the actions of the successor trustee and beneficiaries after the fact. Many people fail to realize that there are items that should NOT go in your estate plan or living trust. For example, many people believe that putting their insurance policies is safe. By making the trust the beneficiary it is a nightmare not only for the successor trustee but the eneficiaries. You are much better off naming the beneficiaries. If the insurance cannot find the address of a specific beneficiary, don't worry they will ask the other individuals or do an actual search. I know that is what happened to me when I was a small beneficiary of an insurance policy. Also if you have annuities do not include them in the trust as it can also be complicated to distribute. Many people believe in putting their vehicles into their trust. For some states it is not complicated but for a number of them it is a lot of work to transfer it out of the trust particularly if you wish to sell it. This also includes, boats, golf vehicles, motorcycles and any other motorized vehicles. Do not include bank accounts, business accounts and other assets that are too complicated to change after you pass. Do put your home and other real estate in your estate plan. It is much easier to deal with in all states. Do not include out of the country assets as each country has their own laws. Do you have an estate plan? This was not a topic for the Good Gus series. Download an e-book for the children in your life now that the weather is changing. After all this data "Misplaced Trust" is an e-book you will find really interesting. The Good Gus Series is available online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones. Can Spam Act

In 2003, Congress passed the CAN-SPAM Act, a federal law that defines and regulates the sending of unsolicited commercial email. This law became effective on January 1, 2004. The Act does not ban the sending of unsolicited email for business purposes. Instead, it establishes requirements for those who send such e-mail, spells out penalties for those who violate the Act, and gives consumers the right to ask emailers to stop sending email to them. It requires companies to stop sending email to recipients who have said they no longer wish to receive it (opt OUT). Sadly it doesn't work. If you wish to write business to business about your products here are a few tips. Don't use false or misleading header information - your FROM, REPLY-TO, and domain information must be legitimate and actually identify the real sender of the message. Don't use misleading subject lines - this is self-explanatory, and rarely an issue for marketers. How often do you receive those? Tell recipients how to opt out of receiving future email from you - include a clear and conspicuous unsubscribe mechanism in every email. Identify the message as an advertisement/solicitation - the law does not state how or where this identification must be made, and thus provides a lot of leeway. This rarely is a problem for business marketers, as their message to prospects would be difficult to confuse with anything other than a commercial message. Make sure to opt them out immediately. This NEVER happens to me. This did not exist in the Good Gus series as computers had not been invented. Reading was most important and should be for all young people today. The books lend excitement in e-book and paperback. This law has nothing to do with "Misplaced Trust: but I thought it would be an intresting read to my viewers. Consider checking out "Misplaced Trust" in e-book today. The Good Gus Series is available online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones. Musicians

Did you know that musicians' brains react differently to pain? While we hurt, often in too many places, their brains react differently. Research has shown that their brains are wired differently. Due to years of practise and playing, their brains have developed a different way to deal with pain. Their years of practise have caused a neurological buffer which in turn has caused them to build a strong resistance to pain. All the years of practise has forced their brains to change their neurological structure. Apparently in this way their brains develop a remarkable resistance to pain. If you see coaches on YouTibe, and Facebook they will tell you that you can rewire your brain. It is called neuroplasticity. Many people, muscicians included feel inferior, don't believe they can succeed and have many more negative thoughts. Musicians have a fear of failure. It is a competitiv field, but it doesn't always mean a person will never succeed. Musicians have targeted training. They practise every day and believe that they will succeed. Their thought patterns are success not failure. Because they have targeted brain training, they have trained their brains to attain their goals rather than sabotage them. There are no musicians in the Good Gus series. There are good stories in e-book and paperback. "Misplaced Trust" has nothing to do with musicians just people who think lying, cheating and stealing is acceptable. Read it over the holiday in e-book. The Good Gus Series is available online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones. Food for the Poor

An executive is on leave for calling his product, Campbell's Soup, food for the poor. What an insult. Not only that I would imagine his salary is quite high to be so rude about their products. People use soup for a variety of things. I like to use cream of mushroom for chicken pot pie. First of all it makes it taste better and second I cannot make good gravy. My grandmother made the best and it is the one item I cannot duplicate. Another person with the company said the meat was bioengineered. If that were true they would have to post it on their labels. Campbell's soup is one of the few products that I use. I make my own soups which I imagine technically so do poor people. My daughter frequently buys a precooked whole chicken at the grocery. If it is the same day we will eat it for dinner. I eventually strip it and use the dark meat for the dogs. Then I cook the bones for bone broth. Now in the grocery, bone broth is expensive. I sometimes save it for the broth for homemade pilaf, soup, or even for the dogs. Maybe it is food for the poor but it is good food. What is in my bank account does not reflect my cooking. It is the taste that counts when it comes to purchasing ingredients and cooking. I have yet to hear anyone tell me that they didn't like my food or that it was food for the poor. We all need to eat as healthy as possible. I am not a fast food fan and that has been classified also as food for the poor. I don't see how because to the best of my knowledge, the prices are high for small quantities. What do you think? Cambell's Soup was invented in 1869 during the Good Gus era. Everyone still made their own food. A grocery does not come in the series until much later. It is a good read for the holidays in e--book and paperback. "Misplaced Trust" did have estate plans that donated to the poor over the beneficiaries' objections. Find out by reading the e-book. Parents

In 1992 a set of parents left their two young daughters ages nine and four alone and went on holiday to Mexico for Christmas. It shook the world that they could even think of doing that. The parents told the girls they had to take care of themselves. The parents didn't even hire a babysitter. The girls went next door to their neighbor in Chicago in the freezing weather claiming there was a fire. The neighbor called the police and fire department. The girls were placed at first with their maternal grandmother and then in foster care. It took a while to locate the parents. They were charged with felony abandonment and received two years probabtion. Their behavior changed the laws. I think they should have gone straight to jail. Eventually the girls were placed for adoption. I know a person who left his five year old daughter alone claiming he was at work or the gym. He was at neither. He was buying take away for himself. Half the time she didn't even have food to eat. CPS never caught him. He should have been put in jail indefinitely. What are your thoughts? In the story from the Good Gus series, "The Special Gift," a child was adopted by Ray, a single parent, when Sheriff Gus found him alone. He had been abandoned at an adoption facility. It is a good story for Christmas and you should check it out in e-book or paperback. The unfortunate parts of "Misplaced Trust" are the parents who trusted their children and believed they would do the right thing. It is a good read in e-book. Receptionists

Your receptionist is important as he or she handles callers pleasantly and professionally that it makesthe caller want to do business with you .They are the key to bringing in more new business. Often in any business there are complaints that the receptionists handle immediately. By utilizing a postivie even tempered receptionist you have a better chance of increasing business, avoiding a refund, and bad reviews. I was a receptionist many years ago. I learned quickly how to handle people plus as I worked for a group of engineers, how to do technical typing. Back then there were no computers. Miss Patty was also a receptionist which is how I first met her. She learned quickly the ins and outs of the business. We still work together today. Often customer service is the receptionist. There are times now where you remain on hold for long periods. Many companies in order to avoid receptionists and customer service individuals use chat and sometimes even AI chat. I was on hold yestrday for one and one half hours with texting chat which I am still not sure wasn't AI. At Dr. Moore's office in Pecos in the Good Gus series Nurse Joyce was both the receptionist and nurse. Everyone liked her. How do you feel when you walk into reception with your treatment? In "Misplaced Trust" the attorneys handling the estates have to have receptionisists with extreme patience. As a paralegal we had repeated calls from the same beneficiaries everyday. Too Tired

How often do you feel too tired? I am not talking about any specific age either. It is not your body telling you this, it is your brain. Sports scientist Tim Noakes spent decades studying elite athletes and discovered something remarkable. He said it was your brain creating the sensation of exhaustion to protect you from danger. Have you ever been feeling like your day is dragging, that if you could only take a nap? Then out of the blue a friend calls and asks if you would like to do something fun. Your brain suddenly recalculates and decides that it is a good idea. Suddenly you aren't tired any more. Your brain has decided in its protective mode that it is ok to no longer feel worn out. There are times that your brain will tell you that you are too tired. For example, you are at work and are being forced to make a sales call. You dislike this person and they are always difficult. Suddently your brain tells you that you are too tired and therefore cannot do it. Then you realize your job may be on the line so the threat changes. A larger threat looms in front of you so then you decide to make the call. After, you don't feel quite so tired and maybe the call just wasn't that bad. Fear can make us tired and scared. I am not talking about confonting a snake or alligator but the fear of lack of money, losing your job, or the possible end of a relationship. Do you ever notice these feelings and being too tired? There were times of fear in the Good Gus series but nothing serious. Start today with e-book or paperback. In "Misplaced Trust" being too tired could be real as the successor trustee deals with harsh or threatening beneficiaries. Start today in e-book. The Good Gus Series is available online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones. Hard copies, personally autographed, are available through our website www.goodgusbooks.com along with past blogs for your reading enjoyment. Mystery Shows

In mystery shows and movies there is always a reason for wrongdoing plus the blame game. It doesn't matter which it is always there. In many of them the guilty party will claim they didn't mean to do it or it wasn't supposed to go that way. Take an older "Darrow and Darrow." A man hatched a plan to frame his wife, fake his own death and start a new life. He was a heavy gambler who would attend gamblers anonymous and convince the attendees he would help them win bets at the race track for a percentage. It worked too except there was a flaw. The wife definitely went to jail as she was framed by the husband and his assistant. Finally, a policeman who was planning to resign because he was sure this woman was innocent convinced a long time family friend who was on a leave of absence from being the district attorney to help. They had been friends since the the policeman was a boy and the DA felt there were some times a person does make a mistake but they don't need to placed in long term sentencing. This would give them a whole new education in crime. His name was Miles and he decided to work with Clare Darrow to see if the woman was truly innocent. I have to say the writers for this were outstanding. Clare and Miles truly researched and eventually solved the case. The innocent woman's original attorney was part of the plot. He helped the husband and the assistant but things went awry. The attorney ended up killing the husband and the assistant did sneak back into the innocent woman's home with a wet jacket and muddy boots to frame her The plot was excellent and it just showed that there are mystery shows and movies that can help the innocent with excellent writers. What do you think? There was a mystery in "The Special Gift" when Sheriff Gus found Liam a lost little boy. When I had a radio show before COVID, even a twelve year old girl loved the book and called into the station to leave a message. It is worth a read for the children in your life. In "Misplaced Trust" there are no shows but there are mysteries. Think about it over the holiday in e-book. The Good Gus Series is available online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones. Tips

Most individuals who work in restaurants as waiters or waitressess receive additional compensation through tips. This is primarily a tradition in the United States. In many of the states the minimum wage is extremely low and the workers count on tips. Some diners tip well others either poorly or skip it altogether. When I was young my friend who was studying to become a nurse earned severy-five cents on hour in a muffin shop. At that time the minimum wage was one dollar twenty-five cents an hour. Many years ago when my son was doing aditional schooling in Tennessee, the minimum wage for a restaurant was eighty-seven cents . So, of course, tips were important. Over the years as minimum wages increased in various states, so did the tips. Today I saw an article about a manager who was too greedy. On her first day she gathered all the staff and told them no more tips until they did a better job. One of the employees asked where were the tips going to go. She claimed whe would keep them safe. Many of the workers were angry and unhappy but also didn't wish to lose their jobs. One person asked about the owner and she said if they told on her they would be fired. Her tone was nasty. Everyday the manager's attitude and tone became worse. No one could stand it. One of the emloyees was the owners daughter but no one knew that. She finally told her dad and he was furious. He secretly installed cameras all the while the manager becoming bolder and acting as if she owned the place. The dad finally confronted her and that was the end of her. How do you feel about tips? I did not include tips in the Good Gus series. With the holiday next week in the states, a good read would be delightful for the children in your life. "Misplaced Trust" had characters similar to the restaurant manager. It's a good read for the holiday. The Good Gus Series is available online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones.
