Fright

There is a new fright in America. It is call shootings in schools. Two parents sent their children to Catholic school in Minneapolis and while they were at mass they were killed. It is not only devastating to the parents but the students as well. This isn't the only school either that has had shootings. I am beginning to think children may be frightened to attend school. What is worse is that it is not only schools. It seems to be happening in a variety of locations. Someone recently went into a department store and shot a couple of people. It has to make you wonder about safety wherever you go. What makes me wonder is why these people do it and then often kill themselves. Calling them a deranged monster doesn't mean anything because it doesn't stop. It is nerve wracking just to visit a shop in America. It doesn't occur in other countries for the most part. Why do you think these people do it? Is it for their fifteen minutes of fame, to be noticed, or just to destroy lives including theirs? I imagine if people have morals they cannot understand this any more than I can. Have you figured it out? Fortunately the only fright in the Good Gus series came from animals. Rabies

Rabies is becoming rampid again. When my son was young, all of a sudden there was a rabid possum out in front of his bedroom window. He didn't know what to do. We ended up calling the sheriff as it was a small town who came out and had to figure out how to collect it. The worst part of this was that he would never sleep in his room again. I also wrote a story in the Good Gus series about rabies.It is book twenty-seven entitled "Toby Saves the Day." One day as Judge Ross was riding into town, he saw an animal too big to be a dog moseying along the trail. As he approached it he realized it was a baby elephant that sure looked hungry. He had some bread crumbs so he fed them to him as they headed into town. By the time they arrived, Sheriff Gus saw them as he was sitting on a rocker on his porch. He realized that the baby must be lost. All the children were excited and of course they liked him so much so they named him Toby. The sheriff wrote to the zoo the next day and the children played with him and of course, overfed him. One day as all the children were playing in town as it was the last day of school and a big celebration, there was an animal drifing towards Pecos. Miss Patty didn't like the looks of him and made the children back up. One of the kids went's to the sheriff's office to tell him. As the animal kept approaching Toby began sounding his trumpet. He crashed into a fence and began swinging his trunk back and forth until Ray and Gus arrived and crated him. They knew instantly that he had rabies. Have you ever seen a rabid animal? Wishing

Many people believe wishing will make their dreams come true. If that was real then we would all be healthy, wealthy and wise. Wishing for your birthday is nice but as children even know it just doesn't come true. There was a song in the 1960's by Dusty Springfield entitled, "Wishing and Hoping." Of course, we all loved it. Not only did she have a gerat voice but we loved the lyrics. What is a person to do? Today manifesting may be a form of wishing. It works for some people and particularly the coaches. There are individuals who are actually wealthy and sell their manifesting tips. Has it worked for you? Other people believe in hard work and try to get recognized to succeed. Then there are the religious leaders who preach sermons and are millionaires by convincing individuals to follow them and pray. I am not saying it doesn't work but they sure are wealthy. Many of them own eight or nine luxury cars, several homes and take luxury holidays. If you have that much money why isn't it going to charities to help disabled people and particularly children. One of my dreams is to make the Good Gus series successful so I can donate books to children in hospitals, who have diseases and are in need. It is a good series in both e-book and paperback. Many of the heirs in the chapters in "Misplaced Trust" may have been wishing to not be swindled. It is an interesting read in e-book. Living Trust

There are many ads for living trusts. People do not understand them and recognize their value. They know only one thing and that is about avoiding probate. It is a good idea because in most states the probate number is very low. The value of a living trust is more that just a document for when you pass. Most include a Durable Power of Attorney which is primarily for handling money should something happen to you and an Advanced Health Care Directive if you are suddenly ill. As anyone who reads my blog knows, I am a paralegal. Our living trusts include a Will, Certification of Trust, the Powers for money and health and even the HIPAA. Of course many individuals change their living trusts a few or even several times over the years. When I say change their trusts that frequently includes all the documents. What occasionally happens is a family fight, a relative moves away, gets into trouble, or borrows too much from the Trustor and then they know that person is unreliable. In my book "Misplaced Trust" there are families who believe they are putting the right person in charge as Successor Trustee, but there are individuals who suddenly become the wrong person and it is too late then. Just recently a mother passed and put one son in charge. The other son had some health issues and both of his sons had been in jail. The son in charge decided that only his wife and son would be the individuals to inherit the estate. He worked it, not through us, to switch everything and put his brother in a home. He then had a special needs trust prepared so he could give him money and did pay for the facility. Once the brother was in care he deteriated rapidly and passed. His sons received nothing. Hate

Have you noticed in social media that there is just too much hate? The royality are fighting and expressing hate towards each other. I don't understand why because they live in two different countries. If you stop and think about it, it probably comes down to money and power. I just saw today that Pamela Anderson came out with a pickle that will rival whatever Megan Markle has been discussing and possibly promoting. This should be a lovely fight. No matter who it is the hatred just keeps coming. Of course, let's not leave out all the reels about mother-in-laws. The daughter-in-laws, future brides, etc. have so many complaints that hate isn't a strong enough word. There was an article yesterday about a daughter-in-law complaining that her mother-in-law tried to control everything with her first new baby. Then there were the artciles about mother-in-laws wearing black, a bridal gown, or even make a grand entrance in a flashy outfit at the wedding. There have been protocols in place for hundreds of years and now the mothers' of the grooms want to change everything. It might be nicer if they just carried a sign stating they hate the bride and disapprove of the marriage. It is not how adults should behave. There is no hate in the Good Gus series. Small Minded

When we were all growing up we were continually exposed to small minded people. We were presented a variety of opinions many of which we had no desire to hear. Often people would give their ideas and thoughts which they expected us to accept without question. If you even attempted to disagree most individuals back then would say any of the following. "You are too young. You have no idea what you are talking about. I am older and smarter than you. Don't you dare disagree with me. I am always right." That is just a sampling. The worst part is that if you had family members, or even parents who had a variety of prejudices you were punished for not listening and obeying them and their thoughts. The average person would suddenly realize when they were no longer exposed to these narrow minded individuals, that they were generally one hundred percent wrong. As children we like everyone unless they are not nice to us. However, with small minded parents you generally end up following in their footsteps and become closed minded. This is seriously what probably led to prejudices. Eventually, as we grow up we form our own thoughts and opinions and they are not always in agreement with our families. For example, we we all moved on to higher education where we met a variety of people. I went to a business school. I thought everyone was very nice. It was a good experience. In the Good Gus series I wrote various characters who were acquaintances or my friends. That is the main reason the series is multiethnic. It can be downloaded in e-book or purchased in paperback. Strategy

Mozart said, "The music is not in the notes, but in the silence between," in other words your strategy. Dr. Michael Porter said, "The essence of strategy is choosing what not to do." When you have an idea the smart move is to focus on it but not on every thought. Some ideas are great while others are mediocre. Often famous people have have said no to thousands of ideas. In a recent interview with Taylor Swift who just came out with a new album, she had a strategy for this current album that she finally made happen. It was something that she wanted to do for a long time and now she has succeeded. When people are in business they cannot react to their competition. The most important way to grow and sell your products is by utilizing your own strategy and not caing about your competition. The more you try to compete with them the more you lose. Your goal is to produce a product that people need, like and at a favorable cost. Then you will have sales all day long. Often strategy is what you don't do. Take a look at the business people that are so busy they just don't have time for anything. Their businesses are barely thriving because they are focused on everything and not on the importance of need, like and cost. People need to stop and think what their goal is and then form a strategy, don't you agree? There were several stories in the Good Gus series in which the characters had a strategy. For example, in "The Cattle are Restless" Cory saw the problem, developed a strategy and rode into town for help. Magnesium

I am a big believer in nutritional supplements and have been since my twenties. One important supplement that people neglect is magnesium. Just because it is included in a multivitamin doesn't mean it is enough as we age. Many individuals who exercise believe that leg and foot cramps are normal. No, it is not. You need extra magnesium to combat that pain. There are individuals who are continually tired. Again they need more magnesium. It is important to notice and not just think you are doing too much, or that you feel exhausted. It may be but not all the time. I didn't know that a low intake amount of magnesium could cause anxiety and depression. I always assumed anxiety was inherited and that depression occured from life events. I know that a lack of it can cause insomina and sleep issues. A member of my family takes it every night and it is working out well. What is important to note is that it can help migraines and headaches. That expains a lot for a member of my family. Another factor that should always be addressed is high blood pressure. It may be necessary to test it a few times a day and then test out magnesium to help reduce your numbers. It is best to look up with the medical advisory associations online to find the maximum amount. Many people do tend to overdose. The Classroom

The classroom has changed quite a bit since the 1800's which is the time period my Good Gus Series is portrayed in Pecos, Texas. The differences between then and now are drastic. In Pecos, Miss Patty was the school teacher in a one room school house. She planned lessons and taught various age groups. All the children worked together. The older children helped tutor the younger children. It was an era of cooperation and extensive learning. Miss Patty stressed reading, writing and arithmetic. It sounds almost cliche'. The children sat at small wooden desks and wrote out all their lessons. In the current times reading is still stressed, but it's appalling that so many children graduate illiterate. I am not sure if it's too much electronics in the world so the need for reading seems almost obsolete or if the variety of monsters, violence, fairies, fantasy and super heroes that makes reading an old fashioned book boring. I have even begun to notice that cursive is no longer taught and with the advent of a computer for every child, writing out and solving math problems, or handwriting an essay is just out of style. The old one room classroom is almost like home schooling. My children attended public school and I home schooled them as well. I was always affiliated with a school so that if they ever decided to return to the school system, there would be no difficulties. Home schooling is more popular now and is even attached to local public schools. The major difference I found in home schooling was that the lesson plans really focused on classic literate. The interesting part about home schooling was that when you received the books whether they were eighty pages or three hundred and eighty pages the lessons planned covered the entire books cover to cover. When I read my books to classes, I enjoy watching the children's reactions and seeing the projects they are interested in. Poisons
Bill Gates has been selling farmers a product entitled apeel especilly for organic fruits and vegetables. Here is the problem. It is cannot be seen nor washed off. Both Michelle Pfiefer and Christie Brinkley and other celebrities in Hollywood are objecting. The Bill Gates Foundation poured billions of money into this claiming it will reduce food waste. No one asked for this yet here it is. It is imperative you check all of your products. Groceries that are selling these products include Kroger, which owns Smiths and Ralphs, HEB, Trader Joe's and several other well known shops. Using the money to harm others is not right. I have written about organic fruits and vegetables and we all believe that they are pestiside free. Now we have to check for the apeel lablel. There were no poisons in the Good Gus era. Shallow and Petty

Many people who appear nice are secretly shallow and petty. I was watching "The Mentalist" again after all these years and he referred to a principal of a high school as being a shallow and petty bureaucrat. The man really was. He passed out punishments that the students did not deserve. In that one episode, Patrick Jane did discover that the principal had been acting in an unprofessional and illegal manner. Patrick suspected that he had hid cameras in the boys and girls restrooms as a few of the students were severely punished and there was no way for anyone to know what they did. Of course, Patrick borrowed paint from the drama club as they were making props for their play. He painted the boys bathroom with graffiti and then waited. Naturally, he was paged to the principal's office and the principal reprimanded him. Patrick pointed out that no one knew and then he opened a cabinet and there were all the cameras. There was a period of time when my late husband's secretary lived with us. She was extremely petty. For example, she disliked the way I loaded the dishwasher, so every time I filled it she went back and rearranged it. If I left my few dishes in the sink, she loaded the entire dishwasher except for my few things. You wouldn't mind but I did the majority of the cooking while taking care of my children and working. Sadly, there is so much more but I do not believe on dwelling on the past or negativity. Unfortunately, you can easily see pettiness in the videos on Facebook. It is frequently in short videos in the restaurant business. The customers who do not appreciate the service show their shallow and pettiness by not tipping. I did not allow that type of behavior in any of my stories in the Good Gus series. I always felt it was important to have characters with good manners. Animal Bullies

There are times when we have all seen varies breeds of animal bullies. A six month old African elephant was in an article today because he was acting just like a toddler and a bully. He was really cute but that doesn't quite make it. He did a serious head butt and then realized he had made a huge mistake. He then pretended to be innocent. It did not work. We have been watching a relative's dog as they had to go out of state for work. She seemed like a nice sweet dog until one day while I was washing the floor I saw out the front door that she was tearing our dog to shreds. The cost to the vet was bad enough but then another day when we thought she was in her kennel she escaped and did it again. As it that wasn't enough, she attacked one of my granddaughter's two puppies. This is a dog who will protect everyone. Then today, as the pups slipped over the fence my daughter ran out to stop her from going at the postman. We have asked them to make a trip to take the dog but they have yet to appear. We have a rescue cat that all the dogs except the bully are kind to. It is a delimina. I have seen animal bullies even at he zoo but not exactly in my life. Do you have them in yours?
