Mountaineers surpass century mark for emphatic victory over Houston in opening game of Big 12 play, 101-46.

Six players scored in double figures for the West Virginia women’s basketball team as the Mountaineers kicked off their 2025 conference schedule by scoring 100+ points for the first time in Big 12 play against Houston inside the Hope Coliseum on Sunday afternoon.

Jimmy Gregg statistics for his senior season at University High were staggering.

The nationally-rated punter booted 49 punts for 2,246 yards, an average of 45.83 yards. Opponents didn’t have many opportunities to gain yards on returns, as Gregg’s 45.14 yards net average attests.

All season, Gregg had no touchbacks.

Messerly, Nelson leading MHS to strong start in 2025 with domination of Wheeling Park.

In high school sports, each new season usually means a new group with new challenges, and for the state runners-up, the Morgantown girls basketball team, there have been plenty. Losing six seniors to graduation was expected, but losing Kayli Kellogg, last year’s leader in points, assists, and steals, to an off-season injury certainly was not.

Oklahoma State wrestling came into Hope Coliseum and took care of business, stomping West Virginia.

The No. 5-ranked Cowboys won 34-3 Sunday over No. 17 West Virginia, handing the Mountaineers their second-straight loss of the season. WVU lost on Friday against North Carolina in Chapel Hill and is now 5-2. Oklahoma State moved to 7-1 on the year.

University High School senior Eli Karpinski and his team got the 2025-2026 season under way in scorching fashion, defeating visiting Parkersburg 94-61 on Baker’s Ridge in a season-opening victory.
