The issue comes down to carryover.

When the city passed its $45.3-million general fund budget earlier this year, it factored in an estimated carryover of $5,958,750.

When you turn on your faucet to fill a glass, run a bath or prepare a meal, chances are you’re using water pulled from the Morgantown Utility Board’s Flegal Reservoir.

Since MUB filled the 370-million gallon manmade lake in 2023, it’s become an integral water source for a system providing some 10.5 million gallons daily to area residents.

FirstEnergy sisters Mon Power and Potomac Edison have seen substantial growth in new net-metering customers during the past year – 30% and 32% respectively.

The companies jointly filed their annual net-metering reports with the Public Service Commission on Friday, covering the period of June 1, 2024 through May 31 this year.

Net-metering customers generate a portion of their own electricity, generally through solar or wind, and receive credits on their bill for any power they generate in excess of what they use.

As summer heats up, so does snake activity — but experts say there is little reason for alarm.

“Snakes are out and about now, but they’re more misunderstood than dangerous,” said Frank Jernejcic, a retired fishery biologist and longtime West Virginia snake expert.

Jernejcic has spent more than a decade monitoring timber rattlesnakes at Coopers Rock State Forest, documenting more than 1,600 encounters over the years. Despite those numbers, he said the risk of a dangerous encounter is minimal.
