“It seems as if there’s no shortage of ways that people want to try to mess with municipalities and the way they govern themselves,” Delegate John Williams, D-Monongalia, said during a recent sit-down with leadership from the city of Morgantown.

The city concurs.

In response, it’s asking its local representatives to advocate on behalf of municipalities when the West Virginia Legislature convenes for its 2026 session on Jan. 14.

Tonight is the big night! I have a plate of cookies ready for Santa and now I just need to pour a glass of milk so he has the perfect snack. 🍪🥛 I am so excited to see what Santa brings. Maybe something dino sized?
I have been practicing my best thank you roar just in case I catch him in the act. Until then I will be waiting by the tree and trying really hard not to eat all the cookies myself. 🦖 Wish me luck!

The chief judge for the Northern District of West Virginia has denied the joint motion seeking approval of a class action settlement between Anthony Rowand and the city of Morgantown regarding a since-repealed municipal panhandling ordinance.

In a ruling issued Wednesday, Judge Thomas Klee said the motion of the parties “glosses over” the critical first step of the court’s required analysis – whether class certification is appropriate in this particular case.
