Now that our second cohort of NewStart students has wrapped up its final class, let’s take a look at what we’ve accomplished through our first two years...

Through Year 2, we’ve had 11 students earn master’s degrees in Media Solutions & Innovation, with another two earning certificates.



We’ve helped establish EIGHT journalism-related startups, including Black By God: The West Virginian, Arizona Luminaria and The Diversity Pledge Institute.


Our students continue to negotiate with existing small, rural newspapers with hopes of purchasing and transitioning them to sustainable business models for the long term.


We’ve seen one student become publisher of a news organization and three students obtain jobs with new organizations.
