LDS’s Giving Machines Return For The 2025 Holiday Season

Against a background of street buskers in Elmo, Spider-Man and Statue of Liberty costumes, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) kicked off its 2025 Light the World Giving Machines program in New York City’s Times Square. The program, which has raised $48 million since its 2017 launch (including $16.4 million in 2024 alone), uses vending machine-style contraptions to fundraise for a variety of local, national and international causes.

GivingTuesday Blending In To Overall Holiday Generosity

Military families stationed at Camp Pendleton tend to be young and at the lower end of the pay scale. Many need the assistance of the Armed Services YMCA, Camp Pendleton (ASYMCA). When Giving Tuesday rolled around in 2024, the ASYMCA raised $8,526 from 42 donors. That might not seem like a lot of money, but it went a long way for those serving.

Remembering Online Pioneer George Irish

George Irish was an unmistakable force in the global nonprofit sector, helping lead generations of fundraisers and technology teams as they broke new ground in online fundraising and campaigning. George, a consultant, father and outdoorsman, has died at the age of 61. The news was announced on September 10th by Irish’s life partner, Anette Wenderoth, who said in a social media post that “he suffered a heart attack while mountain biking,” and that “he left us far, far too early… But we take comfort from knowing that he was so happy that day: he was out in nature, doing what he liked, and, most importantly, he was doing it with our daughter (Fenna).”

Integrating DAFs, QCDs Into Development Strategy

With Boomer wealth at record breaking levels, you are getting gifts from donor-advised funds (DAFs) and qualified charitable distributions (QCDs). If your development strategy doesn’t include a proactive approach to DAFs and QCDs, you’re missing key opportunities to engage donors at every level, from annual giving to major gifts and capital campaigns.
