About .7% of Americans serve in the military.
Knowing this, I understand why Memorial Day can become a weekend for BBQs and discount shopping.
But for the .7% of us...this weekend is a profound reminder of the sacrifice approximately 1,350,000 Americans have made since 1776.
They fight for freedom, against oppression, to preserve our inalienable rights, of course; but, more than that, they fight for each other. For those who never make it home, a very small group of people are profoundly and forever affected.
That loss is felt every single day - but on some days, it is felt more than others.
Today we reflect on that loss. We pause to honor the families and military members who are profoundly and forever changed by a loss that can never be reclaimed; a hole, that can never be filled.
It is my hope, for anyone reading this, that today is not the only day you take a moment to reflect. Instead, when you are voting, or posting something in opposition of a politician you disagree with absent of fear from arrest, or showing up to protest a law infringing on our rights, or when you travel freely from state to state, or benefitting from any of the unique rights we are blessed to benefit from in this country, that you remember those who put on a uniform to fight for or defend those rights.
A fight, which must never be lost.
God Bless Our Troops.
God Bless America.
