Twenty-five years after Sept. 11, 2001, the images from that day are still burned in our collective brains: the planes, the towers, the smoke, the crowds glued to their television screens in disbelief.

But in the days and weeks that followed, local newspapers told thousands of smaller stories far from the Twin Towers, the Pentagon and a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Rev. Becca Girrell, pastor at the United Community Church of Morrisville, was arrested for trespassing by Vermont State Police, along with six other Vermont faith leaders, at the National Criminal Analysis and Targeting Center, situated in the White Cap Business Park on Industrial Avenue.

The fight isn’t over for a proposed quarry operation that would be part of a large industrial park off Route 100 in Morristown.

The business putting forward the plan has appealed the Act 250 denial of the proposal to the state’s environmental court, starting another chapter in the multi-year story.

Scott Johnstone, manager of Morrisville Water & Light, has been a busy man over the last year.

In addition to overseeing the utility in the county’s most populous town, he’s also been tapped to helm the neighboring utility in Hardwick and clean up a messy financial situation at Hyde Park Electric.

Now, he is looking ahead at preliminary plans for a two-year operating agreement between the three utility services.
