A Quick Note From The Basin Almanac

We took a short break over the holidays after receiving an offer to purchase The Basin Almanac. The offer was generous, and we took the time to thoughtfully consider what it would mean for the publication and the community we serve.

After reflection, we’ve decided to pass. The Basin Almanac will remain locally owned and independently operated.

We believe local stories are best told by people who live here, work here, and care deeply about this region. That commitment hasn’t changed.

We’ll continue regular updates on social media and will be resuming editorials in the new year. As always, thank you for reading, supporting, and holding us accountable.

The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning for portions of Adams, Grant, Chelan and Douglas Counties for West winds 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 to 65 mph beginning 7 p.m. on 12/5 until 7 a.m. on 12/6. Areas of damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Strong cross winds on Interstate 90 between George and Vantage.

The Basin Almanac is inviting MLSD staff — including teachers, paraeducators, and support staff — to privately share why they do or do not support the current strike. We’re hearing that perspectives may be more diverse than social media suggests, and we want to ensure every voice in the district has an opportunity to be heard.

In response to recent community outreach, we’re gathering feedback about the Samaritan Healthcare ER and overall satisfaction with the current hospital board and administration.
