ALERT: Mound City City Firework display day change!!!!!
The fireworks contractor has reached out this morning and we’ve decided to change the fireworks display to Sunday night, July 6.
Expected rain throughout the day today will impede on a safe setup of the display, and potential rain again this evening could cancel the show last minute.
For those reasons, the show has been moved to Sunday evening, July 6.
We apologize for the inconvenience, but the fireworks pyrotechnics peoples safety is top priority.

Now Open: Mill Creek Bridge on Holt Route T

The Holt County Route T bridge over Mill Creek is now open following a deck replacement project. Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc., working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, reopened the bridge on Thursday, July 3.

Route T at the Mill Creek Bridge has been closed since May 5.

Two other bridges are also included in this project – the U.S. Route 59 bridge over Interstate 29 in Holt County and the Rock Creek Bridge on Atchison County Route F. All work is expected to be completed by September 2025.

To all of our subscribers:

There has not been any mail delivered/picked up in the area since last Saturday, and mail is not being picked up/delivered today. The Post Office is also closed tomorrow, Thursday, January 9, due to President Carter's funeral service. It is hopeful that mail services will resume this Friday, January 10. We wanted to get the word out since newspapers will be arriving later than usual. We appreciate your readership!

CORRECTION: Atchison, Holt counties U.S. Route 59 resurfacing to begin Sept. 9

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – A project to resurface portions of U.S. Route 59 is scheduled to begin Monday, Sept. 9. Herzog Contracting Corp., working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, will resurface the first portion of Route 59 from the intersection of Missouri Route 46 near Fairfax in Atchison County to the intersection of Holt County Route O near Oregon. Once complete, crews will then resurface and widen the shoulders of Route 59 from Holt County Route O to Interstate 29.

During construction, the roadway will be narrowed to one lane with flaggers and a pilot car guiding motorists through the work zone from 6 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. A 10-foot width restriction will be in place.

Both sections are planned to be resurfaced by November 2024.

As a part of this project, Route 59 from the Iowa state line to Missouri Route 136 near Tarkio in Atchison County, and U.S. Route 159 from Little Tarkio Creek to I-29 near Mound City are planned to be resurfaced in 2025. These projects are scheduled to be completed by November 2025.

A project to resurface portions of U.S. Route 59 is scheduled to begin Monday, Sept. 9. Planned Roadwork for Northwest Missouri, August 5-11

St. Joseph, Mo. – The following is a list of general highway maintenance and construction work the Missouri Department of Transportation has planned in the Northwest Missouri region for the week of Aug. 5-11.

There also may be moving operations throughout the region, in addition to the work mentioned below. Inclement weather may cause schedule changes in some of the planned work. Check the MoDOT Traveler Information Map at http://traveler.modot.org, or download the app for updated information.

I-29 – Concrete replacement southbound driving lane from mile marker 99.5 to mile marker 99.3, Aug. 5-6.

I-29 – Concrete replacement southbound driving lane from mile marker 86.4 to mile marker 86.2, Aug. 6-7.

Route Y – Bridge maintenance at the bridge over I-29, Aug. 7.

I-29 – Concrete replacement northbound driving lane from mile marker 90.0 to mile marker 90.7, Aug. 7-8.

I-29 – Concrete replacement northbound driving lane from mile marker 75.6 to mile marker 75.8, Aug. 8-9.

U.S. Route 59 – CLOSED to through traffic for bridge maintenance from Route 46 near Fairfax to Route 111 in Craig, Aug. 5, 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. No traffic will be permitted across the bridge.
