Hello Everyone, This is Dixie Railfanner.

As you all know I havent posted a video in a good little bit, I've been busy with school, work, and other typical life things. I also have lost the urge to railfan and upload content to my channel due to the aforementioned statement as well as the fact that several railfanning trips were unsuccessful so I wasnt able to get any content filmed unfortunately. I wanted to let Y'all know, im still here and I thank everyone for their continued support and I thank everyone for helping to reach a major milestone- 2000 subscribers, that is just amazing and I thank you guys so so so much. When new content returns to the channel (I dont know when that'll be), I now have a new phone so hopefully better videos, well, at least quality wise. But I just wanted to let yall in on whats been happening and thank you for all Y'alls support, it means so so much to me.

Goodbye for now and God bless

-DR

There's never a dull moment. We were back at the quarry today and had a chance to to check out the old 45 ton diesel/electric locomotive that was used to move stone around rhe site. Super cool piece of our area's history. You can learn more when our new business and industry exhibit come on line later this summer. Stay tuned!

Happy National Train Day Railfans!

This Day in Railroad and United States history-

The Last (Golden) Spike was Hammered into place at Promontory Summit Utah, connecting the Young Country of the United States East and West Coasts by rail (aka- The Transcontinental Railway) [May 10th, 1869]

This Day we celebrate all things trains, from Diesel to Steam and all in-between. Without them we wouldn't be where we are today and we certainly wouldn't have this hobby so today we take a moment and celebrate our favorite activity- Railfanning and the Railroads that make it all possible.

“Yadkin Valley Railroad Yard Switching- Rural Hall, North Carolina”

March 15th- Rural Hall, North Carolina

On March 15th, 2025, a friend of mine took me down to Rural Hall to watch Yadkin Valley Railroad YV1 switch their main yard. I got to see YVRR 9630 and 9628 in action once again as they pulled empties from the CF Line and tank cars from the Texon siding. From there they Took the empties and put them back on the CF line and then went over to the Old CF Line tracks to pull a cut of Tank Cars.

Verse Used in Video-
“Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.” -Psalms 50:23 (KJV)

Christ Arose. ✝️

(That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.) -Romans 10:9

Below is an Excerpt from the Book of Luke about Jesus Christ’s Resurrection on the 3rd Day.
\/

1. “Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.

2. And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.

3. And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.

4. And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:

5. And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?

6. He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,

7. Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.

8. And they remembered his words,

9. And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest.”

-Luke 24:1-9 (KJV)

Railfanning the Yadkin Valley Railroad in Mount Airy NC (3/14/25)-

March 14, 2024- Mount Airy, North Carolina.

On March 14th, I took a Trip to Mount Airy North Carolina to see Yadkin Valley Railroad’s MA1 delivering freight and switching industries. That Day, Yadkin Valley Railroad 9630 (GP40-2LW) led 9628 and 3 Cars into the Mount Airy City Limits to switch and deliver freight to Insteel and Carpenters (former NCFI) as well as pull empties.

I decided that Day that I'd finally hit Quarry Road, just beyond the City Limits, as I've been wanting to hit that location for a little while. YVRR 9630 also makes its video debut!

This Video features Switching, Pulling Empties, and Rolling Cars down a spur track.

Thank You for Watching and Supporting Dixie Railfanner, God Bless!

Railfanning the Yadkin Valley Railroad in Tobaccoville, Elkin, Siloam, and Rural Hall NC (02/26/2025)

February 26th, 2025- I started the Day in Rural Hall, North Carolina where I watched YV1 beginning their day. From Rural Hall, I decided to Hit Tobaccoville to watch YV1 and it's black and Yellow locomotives roll through. I then hit Rockford but unfortunately no luck so I then headed onto Elkin and waited. While sitting in Elkin I got to watch ET2 roll into Town with two locomotives running light. Then with the company of a fellow railfan, I got to watch YV1 roll into Elkin and get a 85 Car-long empty and head back towards Rural Hall. I decided to chase the now YV2 back into Rural Hall, first hitting Siloam NC and then heading onto Rural Hall, where I watched YV2 stop for a few minutes and then leave Rural Hall, heading back into Winston-Salem but, I decided not to chase them further than Rural Hall.

This Day in Surry County NC History-

Sunday, February 23rd, 1975 (50 Years Ago), Siloam NC

The Collapse of the Bridge that spanned the Yadkin River in Siloam, on the border of Yadkin and Surry Counties.

February 23rd, at around 10pm, heavy fog shrouded the Siloam Bridge, a one lane bridge that crossed the Yadkin River into Yadkin County NC. As James C Venable and another car made their way across, It is debated whether James Hit the Support truss (claimed by the State & NTSB) or if the bridge was already falling while he was on it (as stated by Mr. Venable), this caused the bridge to then collapse into the freezing water below. Venable survived the incident but ended up in the Water and was rescued by two girls who had also plunged into the water but managed to escape their vehicle. Other Cars also began to cross the bridge unbeknownst to the fact that it had collapsed. Two Victims, Hugh and Ola Atkinson heard the cries for help but by then it was too late and they plunged into the river, drowning. Two other victims, Judy Needham and Her 3 Year old, also plunged into the river and drowned. In total 7 vehicles ran off the collapsed bridge and a total of 4 drowned and 16 were injured. Rescue services also soon arrived and began to help the injured in the water, pulling them up onto the Yadkin’s bank. One of the Victims, Hugh Atkinson is claimed to have been asking for many years prior to the incident for the state to repair the run-down bridge but unfortunately, no repairs were ever made. This incident brought Nation Attention to Bridge Safety and the community of Siloam. Later, a new bridge would be put in and it would be named in honor of the deceased.

Today we remember the lives lost in the terrible incident and remember that safety always comes first. Since this incident, the NTSB and State of North Carolina have worked hard to keep roads and bridges repaired and usable, trying to avoid a repeat of that tragic foggy night in Siloam.
