Chocolate Soda Cake 🍫🥤
Rich, moist chocolate cake made with dark soda for extra softness, topped with a thick glossy chocolate frosting.
🥣 Main Ingredients
For the Chocolate Soda Cake
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups granulated sugar
¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 large eggs
1 cup buttermilk
½ cup vegetable oil
1 cup dark soda
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
For the Chocolate Frosting
½ cup unsalted butter
⅓ cup dark soda
¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
3 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
¼ teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons heavy cream, if needed

➡️ Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9-inch round cake pan or a 9x13-inch baking pan.
➡️ In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
➡️ Add the eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, dark soda, and vanilla extract.
➡️ Mix until the batter is smooth and glossy.
➡️ Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
➡️ Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
➡️ Let the cake cool completely before frosting.
➡️ Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
➡️ Add the dark soda and cocoa powder, then whisk until smooth and slightly bubbling.
➡️ Remove from the heat and whisk in the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until thick and glossy.
➡️ Add heavy cream only if needed to make the frosting smooth and spreadable.
➡️ Spread the warm chocolate frosting over the cooled cake in thick swirls.
➡️ Let the frosting set slightly before slicing.
