Measles cases rise in southwest Iowa

MOUNT AYR, Iowa — The recent outbreak of measles in the state of Iowa has consistently been on the rise over the past several weeks. Here in the southwest part of the state there are at least 17 confirmed cases in the region as of August 26.
Ringgold County Hospital reminds residents about the importance of recognizing measles symptoms such as a rash, fever, runny nose, red eyes and a cough. If going to the hospital or clinic for treatment it is best to contact the facility ahead of time if measles is suspected. If seeking medical treatment at any facility it is also recommended to contact that facility prior to arrival so proper precautions can be taken.
Measles is a highly contagious viral illness that can easily spread from person to person.
