Turf's Up Radio

The cable channels and their home improvement shows have nothing on “Turf’s Up Radio.”

Host Darren Gruner brings over 30 years’ experience and passion for improving outdoor living space to his weekly hour on 1230 WBZT – and makes it as much fun for listeners as it is for him. His keen eye for design and innovative ideas has won him multiple bids to improve and manage multi-millio

n dollar projects and properties, and gotten him centerfold spreads in major outdoor living publications – as well as instructional pieces for the DIYs among us! His pride and joy is Kentucky Blue, the company he founded just out of High School in 1982. And his newest company, Totalscape Design embodies his philosophy when it comes to outdoor living: Dream it, Design it. Live it! A lot of the fun and energy on Turf’s Up Radio comes from his side-kicks at Rider University in Lawrenceville,NJ, the second location each week for this live and lively hour- . Andrew Zayicek is a digital media major with a concentration in Radio, Television and Film. A big sports fan, he brings the same enthusiasm to the feature segments on the show, and shares the back and forth on-air fun with Darren live from the studios up north. Matt St. Onge used to major in Chemistry and Secondary Education – until the broadcasting bug bit and wouldn’t let go. He’s the Assistant Program Director of WRRC-FM (“The Bronc”) and is proud of his station’s ranking as number 15 on the long list of college radio stations, according to the Princeton Review. Together with Darren they cover topics like “Product of the Day” finding interesting and unusual new things on the scene; the “Turf’s Up Toolbox” helping find the right tool for every outdoor job, plus Traffic on the Turf, and weather, plus reporting on events of interest to outdoors enthusiasts nationwide. Get into the Turf’s Up Radio habit – every Saturday from 9 to 10 am on 1230 WBZT in South Florida and iHeartRadio coast-to-coast. Those weekend chores have never been as much fun. Sponsored by:

For years, imidacloprid has been one of the standard preventive grub control products in turfgrass. What Makes Imidacloprid Different? It’s Systemic!

One of the biggest advantages of imidacloprid is that it moves through the plant.

When applied:

* To the soil
* Around tree roots
* As a drench
* Through irrigation

The plant absorbs it and moves it through its vascular system. As insects feed on the plant, they ingest the insecticide.

What Does It Control?

Turfgrass Pests:

* Japanese beetle larvae
* European chafer larvae
* Masked chafer larvae

Works best when applied preventively.

Landscape & Ornamental Pests:

* Aphids
* Whiteflies
* Leafhoppers
* Lace bugs
* Mealybugs
* Scale insects
* Adelgids

Especially effective against sucking insects.

Tree & Shrub Applications:

* Hemlocks
* Ash trees
* Ornamentals
* Shade trees

For pests such as:

* Hemlock Woolly Adelgid
* Emerald Ash Borer (in some programs)
* Scale insects

Common Trade Names

* Merit®
* Marathon®
* Dominion®
* Quali-Pro Imidacloprid
* Numerous generic formulations

How does RoundUp work?

Glyphosate is a Group 9 systemic herbicide that works by blocking the EPSP synthase enzyme, preventing the plant from producing essential amino acids. The herbicide moves throughout the plant, including the roots, causing complete plant death over time.

“Glyphosate doesn’t burn weeds—it starves them. It enters through the leaves, moves throughout the plant, and shuts down the plant’s ability to make the proteins it needs to live.”
