ok...where to begin?
Just over 3 months ago there were really no plans for a Latherfest 2012.
There were brief discussions but Toga was enjoying his fatherhood and my own band had been through lineup changes and other turmoil and the outlook was bleak..
then in the first week of May was the untimely death of MCA of the Beastie Boys.
Anyone who knows me knows of my allegiance to the B-boys and since I was 11 years old their music has been a part of my life.So when MCA passed,I knew that we needed to pay tribute in some form at Latherfest. If it was just mimicking their ol'skool logo or playing a few of their songs,it was the least I could do for one of my favorite bands.
That brings me to yesterdays show. To everyone who supports local music and came out to Latherfest 2012,give yourselves a round of applause because yesterday was about positive energy. No drunkin mayhem, fighting,or other static.Everyone came out to have fun and enjoy music and that's what you did.
I think MCA would have liked that.
Now for the bands...first,extra special thanks have to go to The Electric Longhead and Tanglefoot...Playing the afternoon slots is not always the most appealing slot. The crowd is smaller and the sun is hotter, but both of those bands sunk their teeth in and went for it.Great job guys and thank you...As for American Fistola, there were times in the last few weeks where we wondered if we would even be able to play Latherfest, but my boys pulled through and with some last minute help from Corey Dudley on the drums,we managed to put together a set and work in a few Beasties numbers. Was it perfect...No...But one of the best times I've had on the Latherfest stage?...yes...Fist Up!
What can I say about sOMa? They're close friends of mine. They play tons of music by that other favorite band of mine and last night they were transcendent. Honestly, they sound better and the jams get more intoxicating every time I hear them. A strong two thumbs up!
And how appropriate on a show dedicated to the Beasties that we had our first ever hip hop headliner, Kommon Groundz...If you like rap music or not,you have to admit that those guys know how to put on a show and entertain the crowd. They also know how to draw a crowd as well and like last year, they blew it up.They're welcome on the Latherfest stage anytime...
I'd like to tag every single person who came out to Latherfest yesterday, but this status is long enough,so to all of you from Latherfest/mt.scallyrecords,a sincere thank you and we will do it again next year.
