What’s one thing you think happens before a drone ever leaves the ground?

Most people say, “Charge the batteries🔋s.”

Sure, but that’s just one step in the process.

Before every thermal solar inspection we’re verifying irradiance, weather conditions, equipment, flight parameters, site access, and safety. If the conditions aren’t right, the data isn’t right.

Today’s conditions:
☀️ Irradiance: 902 W/m²
🌡️ Temperature: 80°F

Good conditions mean reliable thermal data. Reliable data means owners and EPCs can make decisions with confidence instead of guessing.

The drone flight is the easy part.

It’s everything before it, and everything after it, that separates collecting pictures from delivering actionable information.

What exactly is a Rapid Report?

We inspected a 200 MW solar site today. Before the final full inspection report is even delivered, the client has a Rapid Report showing the high-priority anomalies (string, array, blocks) that may need immediate attention.

Images uploaded and shared with client today. Full report tomorrow. Repairs can happen this week. We reinspect next Monday.

That’s the whole point: get actionable data into the right hands quickly so issues can be addressed, not just documented.

You can’t fix what you can’t see. 🛫

Here’s a little peek at what this coming work week looks like around here.😅

Solar Rapid Report in MI Monday. Chicago Tuesday. Fly to CO Wednesday, while Ken maps our weekly 1500-acre mission. Inspect a solar site Thursday, fly back to MI Thursday evening, then head to WI Friday afternoon.

Oh yeah… and squeeze in three meetings somewhere between all the traveling. 🤓

This is why Sundays are for planning.

Build the flight plans. Look over the sites. Figure out the logistics.

That way when we show up, we run through the preflight checklist and get airborne. 🛫

Weekend planning has become a pretty important part of our workflow. Build the foundation first and the work week just flows better.

Pilot Spotlight: Kenneth Wemigwans

We’re proud to recognize Kenneth Wemigwans as one of our drone pilots at LIDAR Drone Services.

A graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School and a student at Saginaw Chippewa Tribal College, Kenneth has been training with our team in aerial mapping and utility-scale solar data capture. He now leads weekly mapping missions covering approximately 1,500 acres at one project and more than 200 acres at another.

His work ethic, professionalism, and willingness to learn have made him a valuable member of our team, and we’re excited to watch his career continue to grow.
