📷 The DJI Nano has been an easy grab when I want stabilized video without carrying extra gear. It’s small, lightweight, and quick to use, which makes it perfect for travel days, behind-the-scenes clips, walkthroughs, and everyday content.

It shoots 4K, has built-in mechanical stabilization, a wide-angle lens, and a touchscreen that makes framing simple. Startup is fast, recording is one button, and it works well for both vertical and horizontal video. Audio is solid straight out of the camera, and USB-C keeps charging and transfers easy.

This is the kind of camera that fits naturally into a daily kit when the goal is steady footage and efficiency, not overthinking gear. Simple, reliable, and easy to keep moving with from DJI.

Lowcountry sunrises & sunsets 🌅🌊

Early mornings here mean calm water, soft light, and clear skies as the day gets started. Evenings bring warm colors over the marsh, steady reflections across the waterways, and long stretches of golden hour before the light fades. It’s a rhythm shaped by tides, weather, and wide open views that stay consistent year round.

Whether it’s sunrise over the creeks or sunset across open water, these moments are part of everyday life in the Lowcountry and never really get old.

January 3, 2018 | Eight years ago ❄️

Charleston experienced one of the most unusual and memorable weather events in modern Lowcountry history. A rare winter storm moved through the region and delivered 5.3 inches of snow at Charleston International Airport, making it the third-greatest single-day snowfall ever recorded locally. For a coastal city where measurable snow is rare, the totals alone were remarkable ☃️

What made the storm especially disruptive wasn’t just the snowfall, but the ice and extended cold that followed. Roads, bridges, and overpasses quickly became hazardous, and Charleston International Airport remained closed for several days as snow and ice lingered. With limited snow-removal resources and temperatures staying below freezing, conditions took far longer than usual to improve, effectively shutting down travel, schools, and many businesses across the Lowcountry 🧊

Snow cover stayed on the ground for multiple days, an extremely rare sight in Charleston, while nearby areas such as Summerville reported even higher totals. Familiar streets, marshes, and beaches were transformed into scenes few residents had ever seen before ❄️🌴

Eight years later, the January 3, 2018 snowstorm still stands as a benchmark winter event for Charleston and a reminder of just how rare and historic snowfall is along the South Carolina coast 🌨️

January in the Lowcountry | Starting the New Year in Charleston 🌴

January is one of the best months to experience the Lowcountry. Cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and a slower pace make Charleston, Mount Pleasant, Sullivan’s Island, Isle of Palms, Daniel Island, and the surrounding coastal communities ideal for exploring at the start of the new year.

🌤️ What January is like in the Lowcountry
January brings cooler mornings, mild afternoons, and comfortable conditions for being outside. Beaches, waterfront areas, and historic neighborhoods feel calmer compared to peak tourist seasons. It’s a great time for walking downtown Charleston, visiting local parks, and spending time along the water without summer heat or congestion.

🚶‍♂️ Outdoor activities in January
This is one of the best months for beach walks, harbor views, biking, and exploring the Lowcountry at a relaxed pace. Dolphin sightings remain common in Charleston Harbor and surrounding waterways, and sunsets continue to deliver consistent views across the coast.

🦪 January events and seasonal favorites
January includes several well-known Lowcountry events and seasonal traditions:
• New Year’s Day Polar Plunge on Sullivan’s Island
• Peak oyster roast season across the Charleston area
• Charleston Restaurant Week with prix-fixe menus at local restaurants
• The Charleston Marathon and Half Marathon

🍽️ Food and dining in January
With Restaurant Week and fewer crowds, January is one of the best times to explore Charleston’s food scene. It’s also prime season for oysters, casual waterfront meals, and local restaurants that are easier to enjoy without long waits.

🌊 A quieter time to explore Charleston
January offers a more local feel across the Lowcountry. Less traffic, easier parking, and cooler weather make it a strong month for both visitors and residents looking to experience Charleston beyond the busy season.

January in the Lowcountry is about starting the year with better weather, fewer crowds, and more time to explore what makes the Charleston area special.

🌅 Thank you!

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who followed along in 2025. The support, conversations, messages, and quiet encouragement along the way have meant more than you probably realize.

If you’re on your own journey, whether it’s creative, personal, business, or something you’re still figuring out, keep showing up. Try things even when you’re unsure. Learn from what falls short and from what goes right. Progress rarely looks perfect, but it’s built through consistency and effort.

If you’re ever looking for drone, photography, or videography work, don’t hesitate to reach out. And if you want to work together in 2026, I’d genuinely love to connect.

Grateful for this community and excited for what’s ahead.

Happy New Year 🎉

🌅 Obligatory first bridge photo of the year. Charleston tradition at this point.

The Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge connecting downtown Charleston to Mount Pleasant is one of the most recognizable landmarks in South Carolina. Stretching across the Cooper River, it’s part daily commute, part skyline anchor, and one of the best vantage points over Charleston Harbor. Whether you’re driving it, walking the span, or seeing it from above, the bridge plays a huge role in how Charleston moves and feels.

Captured with the DJI Mavic 4 Pro, but this one is more about place than gear. The Ravenel Bridge represents connection, waterfront living, and the rhythm of life in Charleston and the Lowcountry. Sunrise, sunset, or blue hour, it’s a scene locals never really get tired of and visitors always remember.

Yes, it’s the first bridge photo of the year. No, it won’t be the last.
