Fact or fiction: century old government study probed practice of water witching. “Here’s you a story, Chief,” he said, and pushed it to me. Noted on front of the envelope, “This is Dad’s divining rod.” Wayne’s mother wrote that. In a leather case inside the envelope, the metallic lengths of four rods about as thick as a kitchen match and something short of a foot long belonged to Wayne’s grandfather who died in 1949. Christmas open house features area school choirs at American National Bank. Carolers from area schools filled the lobby with music at American National Bank’s annual Christmas Open House, a tradition going back about 40 years.

The day featured performances by Kindlelight Preschool, AA’s Treehouse, Chapel Hill 4th and 5th grade, E.C. Brice Elementary, Vivian Fowler Elementary, Corprew Elementary, Harts Bluff Elementary, Harts Bluff Middle and Harts Bluff High School.

Bankers began breaking out decorations in November, said Denise Davis.

“It’s a group effort,” she said. “Everybody helps get ready.”
