How consistent are you on social media? The algorithms are oftentimes a mystery, but one thing seems common sense about them: they tend to reward consistent posting. Now, there's obviously much more to social media strategy then churning out posts, such as writing engaging and meaningful copy; but if you're not reguarly engaging on these platforms, you can't expect the algorithms to spread your limited content.

That's like setting up a booth at a trade show and not manning it. Who's going to stop by? Maybe a few people if you have a nice booth. But if there's no one to greet and engage with potential customers, it's ultimately just a shell. And that's how many social media pages are today - essentially abandoned.

Social media is a great tool, but it won't work for you unless you put in the work.

One of the most discouraging phrases a person can hear is: "This is the way we've always done it." How many times have you heard that or something similar when you've presented a new way of doing things?

Why do people shut down new ideas by clinging to old ones?

They think it will be too complicated to try something different.

They don't want to invest the time.

Fear of the unknown - what if the idea ends up causing more problems than it solves?

But innovation can't happen if you always do things the same way. Eventually, you do need to venture into the unknown.

Are you waiting around for people to stumble across your business? Go where the people are. And where are the people today? On their phones, on social media. Even older generations are on it more and more.

As Gary Vaynerchuk says: “put more time, energy, and dollars into the place where the consumers actually are, and not where you wish they would stay.”
