Ben Hughes is a “teacher for life.” Ben was a teacher for 38 years at Red Bluff High School and 25 years at Shasta College.

These days he continues to teach visitors to the Sacramento River Discovery Center, which he founded with his late wife, Bobie.

Jim Hirsch, who serves alongside Ben at the SRDC, describes Ben as “absolutely amazing. Ben is 84 years old, but you wouldn't know when you see him hop like a scrub jay when he takes kids on bird walks.”
