!Important info! Today is Bandcamp Friday! You might be thinking, “so what?!” Today is a day that bandcamp sets aside their cut of the money you pay to download music or buy merch from your favorite artists. So go out there and support your favorite local artists. It makes a difference. Streams on the typical platforms do not generate substantial money. This is how you can make an impact on your friends and family and local artists, who are out there giving you their art and soul. Artist Showcase: Carbon Code

Carbon Code is a band comprised of several multi-instrumentalists working together to create a unique blend of alternative rock with heavy influences ranging from 80’s hard rock, 90’s alternative, folk, blues, alt-country, Americana, and seeking inspiration from the artists they grew up listening to.

I’ve known most of these guys for several years and have played music extensively with their drummer, Stephen. To say I was excited when he proposed that I record and mix them, is an understatement. Carbon Code have so much talent shared between them and they craft original songs that will move you both physically and emotionally.

Over the course of the last 6 months or so, we’ve been working on a couple of songs. First up was a song called Critical. This song was tracked live off the floor with the full band throwing down their parts and feeding off the energy of each other. We took a small break that day and my neighbor came over to chat and they talked him into coming over and joining the session with mandolin for another live take. This take provided a magical touch that became the final version. I’ll link it in the comments.

Now we are in the process of recording a second song, Low. We hope to get that released in the very near future.

Artist Showcase: Nikki Back

I began working with Nikki in December of 2022. She is a talented singer/songwriter who pulls fiercely on her roots in country, folk, gospel, and rock.

February 12, 2023, she came to my home, armed with a few guitars and some songs ready to go. I turned my living room into a live room and we tracked two original songs. Dreamin’ and Runaway. I had my good friend over to lay down some drums for these. We tracked the core of the songs live off the floor, later adding some character tracks.

April 15, we tracked another original. Again live off the floor, but this time in a very special setting. We packed up everything and setup inside of a church that her family attends. Spending the day working up the song Take Me Back, featuring several guest musicians along the way.

As the year continues to move, so does Nikki’s creative force. August 19, we once again turned my living room into a live room and invited a cast of musicians over to track two more songs. We’re still in the creative stages of those though.
