Big Thoughts for a Sunday Night… 🧐
“Technology is only new if you remember the way it was before”
⬆️Read that again⬆️
Technology is forever changing and improving. It will always be a point of friction.
Those of us who worry over our children on tablets were the ones our parents worried about with phones and pagers.
Remember when the world was going to crumble with Y2K? No one under 35 likely.
AI is the newest technology stressor. Everyone is worried about it replacing our jobs - and travel is no exception.
Why would you need a Travel Agent when AI can plan your whole trip in 10 seconds?
Because it was never about the planning - it’s always been about the connection!
A computer can only respond to what you input. It can ask follow up questions but it can’t instinctively know what you or your family need. Can it take your previous experiences and know how to adjust your next vacation to reduce those friction points? If your AI generated itinerary hits a hiccup, will the computer know how to intervene and fix it?
😒Not likely.
But let’s face reality - AI isn’t going anywhere.
So, what if, instead of fearing it and arguing why it’s wrong, we as an industry embrace it?
I’m starting to engage with my client by asking “what has your AI research told you?” - because more than 90% of my clients have looked! And that’s okay!
Yet they are still coming to ME!
For guidance, verification, real-world knowledge, and experience.
They want to KNOW that what they are being told is what THEY need. They want that human connection, and for someone to be excited with them about their vacation. They want a person!
And no matter how advanced AI becomes, it will never be me.🙋🏻♀️
