Save Mount Vernon Say “We Want Answers and The State Comptroller To Audit The Mount Vernon Board of Education”
Mount Vernon, New York (Friday, October 21, 2022): Save Mount Vernon community advocates are organizing a press conference on Friday, October 21, 2022 at 2 pm at the Mount Vernon Board of Education. Save Mount Vernon encourages homeowners, businesses and the community to join them in efforts to gain information on the Board of Education’s expenditures.
The City of Mount Vernon is one of the smallest cities in Westchester County but pays the highest taxes in the County. A large sum of the tax monies go to the Board of Education. The Board of Education does receive additional funding through grants to ensure there are enrichment and recreational programs for the children in the district.
Save Mount Vernon and the community recognize there are not any programs for the children in the district to take advantage of. Save Mount Vernon along with local businesses, homeowners and the community are concerned how and where monies are disbursed and request for the State Comptroller to launch an investigation and audit the district’s spending. Located in downtown Mount Vernon on South Fourth Avenue, you can expect to see numerous people visiting the location to shop and enjoy the great food. Mangoville brings a high-end taste of the Caribbean, lots of foot traffic to South Fourth Avenue business district along with a reputation for their affordable prices, take out opportunity through GrubHub and friendly customer service.
Mangoville is a staple business in the Mount Vernon community providing services for over 10 years along with full time employment to local residents. They are known for organizing small and local businesses to host pop-up shops and private events at their event space across the street from the business, “The Jerk Yard”. Mangoville has a designated area next to the business as a Community Garden, allowing residents to participate in growing fresh fruits and vegetables for free distribution. Mangoville donates food and hot meals to local charities and the Mount Vernon senior citizens every Tuesday from 1pm to 3pm.
Like most businesses in The City of Mount Vernon, there are unfortunate circumstances that may occur at or around the business. An incident occurred at Mangoville between two (2) friends, the last week of June 2022. The owner of Mangoville, Estrado Willis better known as Freddy, was not present during the time of the dispute and when he learned someone was injured at his place of business, Mr. Willis fully complied with the local authorities, The City of Mount Vernon, giving them access to investigate. Mangoville added additional efforts to enforce safety and advised there will be no large gatherings inside of the business.
