the studio features 3 spaces: a control room designed for mixing & mastering, a live room for tracking small ensembles or solo instruments, and an isolation booth for vocals, amplifiers, or solo instruments that need separation. all 3 rooms were masterfully designed by jim keller of sondhus , carefully balancing acoustics, functionality, sightlines, & aesthetics.
the mixing & mastering room is centered around the barefoot micromain 27 speaker. it provides easy access to our analog outboard collection, including vintage pieces from neve, urei, & api, as well as modern tube & solid state units, analog summing mixers, and outboard effects, plus 4 channels of send/returns dedicated to guitar pedals & modular processing.
the live room is big enough to fit a guitar trio, or small chamber group, but is also a perfect place for singer-songwriters or solo musicians who want to spread out. acoustically, the room is dry & crisp-sounding, but not at all dead — drums and guitars sound really great in there.
instruments include nodar rode custom drum kit, 1969 musser m55 vibraphone, fender rhodes, various analog synths, vintage fender amps, etc. mic collection includes chandler redd tube mic and classics from rca, neumann, aea, coles, royer, and schoeps. the headphone monitoring system is a 16-channel hearback pro. the iso booth has large sightline into both the live room & control room. there are also a couple other options for isolation via the studio's dante network, if needed.
