It's fun to watch the changes that the flock goes through throughout the year. Breeding season is coming to a close and Queen Arnold's crest is getting back to that luxurious, pillowy puff. Mr. Lemony's head is slowly changing to dull brown, and I'm just a wee bit grateful for maybe a little less chaos in the duck yard. 😆

Some of today's collection that looked exceptionally beautiful to me. 🥹

The peas are starting to taper off, the few currants that the birds left me are finally looking ripe, zucchini are absolutely exploding and I've found a love for ever lasting flowers that I never expected.

I've never especially loved straw flowers much, but growing all these babies for my daughter's art projects has given me a major change of heart. Beyond the feeling of seeing something you started from the tiniest seed grow and flourish, the textures and colors are sucking me in.. slowly winning over my heart. 🥰 As with anything new, there's been a ton of little lessons along the way, but getting to haul these inside and prep them to become a part of something even bigger feels like such a sweet victory.

These heavy bloomed green eggs steal my heart, every time. 😍 Still anxiously awaiting eggs from this year's pullets, and hoping to see some more heavy blooms, speckles and fun egg colors.

The first bits of flowers for drying are starting to make their way in. 🥰 This winter I set my sights on growing a few beds worth of my daughter's favorite varieties that she uses for art, just to see if I could make a dent in the amount she goes through. These are all new to me, but I'm learning a lot and can't wait to improve on this progress next year. 💚🌱

I won a gift card to earlier this year from a giveaway my sweet friend Allison at was having. Besides the obvious excitement to win something, as a person who never wins anything 😆 LOOK AT THESE BABIES!!! I grew these! 🤣

Just a fun little dozen with some speckles, some heavy blooms, and a nice start to flower season. 😍

I'll admit, we hatched a TON of babies this year.. but this is the only one that made me absolutely squeal with joy when I opened the incubator. I had no idea what might come of the duck eggs that one of my hens had abandoned in a nest, but I fully expected dark, Cayuga mixed babies. Instead, we ended up with mostly ancona x white crested. ❤️ I forever have a soft spot for my puff heads, and this little baby is spending a lot of time with me. I'm determined to be best friends. 🥹

What's the youngest age you've had a duck start laying?

Just found this in the duck house, and I don't usually get this kind of color unless it's the first eggs of the season! So I either have a hen that started really late in the season, a glitch with an unusually heavy bloom or one of the new kids (cayuga mixes hatched late March) started laying really, really early.

It's gotta be one of the older hens that's just started really late... Right? 😆

The little strawberry plants we got last year are finally giving us a good haul! 😍 There's something about fresh from the bush strawberries that just can't be beat! They absolutely taste like fresh summer. The kids aren't too sure about the white "pine berries", but I think they are a pretty fun addition. 😆

Ya know.... It's a miracle that I don't just keep them all. 🤣

First haul in from the garden! 😍 So exciting to see things popping coming along. 💚
