The Lord commanded us Christians to celebrate the Passover of the Lord. You might think that this is only for the Jews. But Jesus died for everyone. And since we Gentiles are grafted into the family tree of the Lord, we are now part of His deliverance in Egypt for the people of Israel is our ancestors of our faith.
As the people of Israel marked their houses so death will Pass over them, the same thing that the Lord Jesus Christ the Messiah did for us. He shed His blood and marked us with His blood so death will Passover us in the time of judgement. The blood of the Lamb is our protection, our covering, and makes us holy. For nothing we can do to make us worthy of Him, only if you have the blood of the Messiah that washes all our sins away. Jesus is the sacrificial Lamb, the perfect sacrifice, spotless or without blemish (sinless). And because of His sacrifice we no longer need to do a sacrifice for our sins, Jesus said it is finished. Our salvation is complete. We are celebrating the Passover because this is the story of our redemption, remembering the sacrificial Lamb the Messiah, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
We celebrated it on April 10th, yes, Easter is already done. But we are actually at the right time to celebrate it in the month of Aviv. In the Hebrew calendar Nisan is the first month of the year which is also called Aviv in the Torah. For us January is the first month of the year. We celebrate Easter in spring around March or April because in the spring time is the first month of the year in the Hebrew calendar where the Lord said to observe and celebrate the Passover of the Lord in the month of Aviv.
The picture below shows the the Seder Plate with each traditional symbols:
Bone - reminds us of the Passover lamb. Only bone in the Seder Plate because we no longer need to do a sacrifice for Jesus did it for us once and for all a perfect sacrifice.
Parsley - symbolizes new beginning, renewal, new growth.
Horseradish - bitter herb - the Israelite bitter slavery in Egypt.
Charoset - the brown mixture of apples, nuts, and wine, symbolizes the mortar to make bricks for the structures of Egypt. It is sweet to the taste because even in the most hard of circumstances can be sweetened by the hope we have in the Lord.
Egg- symbolizes the destruction of the temple since we can no longer do a sacrifice . The egg also represents God for it's shapes shows no beginning and no end. And the destruction of Jesus temple (His Body) gives us life, new beginnings and eternal life. Imagine the egg when it hatches it has to break its temple so that the new life begins.
Romaine Lettuce - symbolizes the flourishing life of the Israelite people when they first started their life in Egypt, they were treated nice because of Joseph but the Egyptians later on forget what Joseph did for their country and the Israelites are growing and being blessed so the Egyptians started to persecute them and turn them into slavery. The romaine lettuce has a sweet taste in the beginning but in the end the taste becomes bitter.
There is also "Salt water" where we have to dip the parsley before eating it. The salt water represents the tears of the Israelites people upon slavery. And also the salt water represents the Red Sea where the people of Israel Pass over.
We also have matzah bread the "unleavene bread" or bread without yeast. Represents Jesus body and also the bread of affliction that the Israelites took with them when they fled Egypt in haste.
In the Passover celebration we can see, taste , and feel the word of God become Rhema alive and moving. And will gives us deeper understanding to know our God. The creator, the Messiah, and King of kings. All Glory to God!
