Robust Degassing Plumes

Glow was visible at the vents overnight and robust degassing plumes are visibly emanating from both vents in Halemaʻumaʻu during the day.

The UWD tiltmeter located near Uēkahuna at Kīlauea summit recorded a total of 17.1 microradians of deflationary tilt during episode 48.

Pulled a late-night marathon getting the AC system back to life!

Replacing the AC condenser, accumulator, and filter was only half the battle. The real work was the hours spent vacuuming the system; moisture is the absolute enemy here in the rainforset of Hawaii, and it plays total havoc on the system if you don't get it bone-dry.

Of course, nothing goes exactly to plan. We went through three vacuum pumps to get it done. The first one leaked oil everywhere, the second started smoking after 30 minutes, but the third one held strong. No leaks, a perfect vacuum, and a full charge later... we are finally blowing arctic air!

This officially completes the "pancake stack" on the front end:

Banks Intercooler (Thank you Thoroughbred Diesel)
Mishimoto Transmission Cooler
New Power Steering Cooler
Radiator (Had to pivot after a bad part from the supplier. Which really sucks because you have to install and fill before you spot the leak! and 5 days shipping. We are out the UPS $150 and time wasted!)

It’s been a project, but the rig is officially ready for the heat. No Re-gerts. Thoroughbred Diesel has been our source for a bunch of parts and with legit 2 day shipping to our house here in Hawaii. Seriously a great company with guys who know trucks and company that understands quality service!

Blowtorch Vents & Tilt Shifts! 🌋

Another night with the vents going off like a blowtorch! Even the North vent kicked into high-flame mode, it’s just the ignition of volcanic gases, but it puts on a massive show.

The tilt is playing with our heads again, though. The UWD recorded that famous "Puna pothole," and the timeline for the next round of big fountains just got booted back to May 5th.

The Facts:

Vents: High-intensity flames and strong glow from both summit vents.

Seismic: 19 earthquakes recorded in the last 24 hours under the crater floor.

Tilt: UWD recorded a sharp drop, but we are still sitting at +7.75 microradians of net inflation.

Forecast: The window for Episode 46 has shifted to Tuesday, May 5 – Saturday, May 9.
