CAPTURED ON CAMPUS: Hot Heads salon has operated near Ball State's campus for over three decades, now run by owners Tena Rees and Brenda Poole.

The room in the Student Center housing the salon, SC L-21, opened as a barbershop in 1959 under Benny Benefiel's management, serving primarily male students when weekly haircuts were considered fashionable. The original barbershop operated for nearly 60 years before Rees and Poole took over the space in 2016.

The transition marked a shift from the men's-only barbershop tradition to a full-service salon serving the broader Ball State community.
