City of Florence & UNA Awarded $762,000 Grant for Pine Street Improvements

The City of Florence and UNA extend a sincere thank-you to Governor Kay Ivey, Alabama Department of Transportation , and Northwest Alabama Council of Local Governments for supporting this investment in safety, accessibility, and community growth.

The City of Florence and the University of North Alabama (UNA) have been awarded a $762,000 Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) grant by Governor Kay Ivey’s office. The grant is administered by the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) and executed locally in partnership with the Northwest Alabama Council of Local Governments (NACOLG).

The project will bring new lighting, sidewalks, ramps, and landings along Pine Street from Irvine Street to Cumberland Street—connecting neighborhoods, downtown, and UNA’s athletic and academic facilities.

🟢 Project Highlights

$952,510 total project cost (80% federal, 20% local match from City & UNA)

4,240 feet of new sidewalks with ADA-compliant ramps, improved lighting, and landscaping

Completion expected in 2026 alongside new stadium facilities
