Tuscumbia City Schools Announce Enhanced Security for Deshler Game and All Campuses Friday
Parents and fans are being advised of enhanced security measures at tonightâs Deshler High School football game against Hatton High School and at all Tuscumbia City School campuses throughout the day on Friday, August 29, 2025.
According to emails sent to parents by Superintendent Russ Tate, the school system will be increasing both game-day security protocols and police presence during the school day in response to recent concerns.
Game Day Security
⢠Metal Detectors: All fans attending the Deshler vs. Hatton football game will be screened with walk-through or hand-held detectors.
⢠Clear Bag Policy: Only clear bags will be allowed into the stadium. Fans are asked to arrive early to allow extra time for the security process.
⢠Field Restrictions: As a precaution, fans will not be permitted to cross onto the field from the opposing sideâs stands. Only student-athletes and those with official field credentials will be allowed on the playing surface.
School Day Security
In addition to the normal presence of School Resource Officers, extra police officers will be stationed across all Tuscumbia City School campuses on Friday.
Colbert County Sheriff Eric Balentine has assigned deputies to assist Tuscumbia with extra security throughout the day.
Superintendent Russ Tate thanked parents and stakeholders for their cooperation, saying the districtâs priority is the safety of students, staff, and the community.
Reason for the Security Measures
While the official school announcement did not specify a reason for the changes, law enforcement sources tell Shoals Insider that threats have been made on social media connected to the school system. Authorities are treating the matter seriously and have moved quickly to bolster security.
