So I've gone down a rabbit hole of old documents amd pictures. See previous posts I've made tonight. People ask me all the time how these get separated from families. The answer is for various reasons. We as sentimental hearts "adopt" them. Can't bear to "toss" them. But what do you validly do with these things that are not from your own family. I don't have any from my own ancestors other than a few. Some have enriched and lengthy family heirlooms. I have BOXES of mysterious people. I think about their lives and a time gone by. I always say I should have been born in the late 1800s - early 1900s. But I say this also. I would have had to be RICH! (lol) For now, I will put these away one more time. I think my family with the goat and cart will stay out in our home for a little while. It's just sweet. Good night and we will be open tomorrow at 10!

New York 1893 you might have had your picture taken. Fancy pants. Says Flora Irwin and Dixey

Flora Irwin (1850-1930) was the older sister of May Irwin - both were popular singers from the late teens into the 30's. May is the more famous sister - however Flora sang some great comedic songs. The black/white photo shows a young Flora probably early 1920's.

This is where my heart lies. I have a ton of old documents that I will gradually go thru over the next few months. I will package these and have them for sale after the open house. (May have to keep a few) Mr W. B. boyd paid $55 for an Open Buggy from the Tyson & Jones Buggy Co in 1900. To follow with a Short Arm Axle in 1902 for $.75!! But guess you needed the Rubber Top from The Hackney Brothers in 1900.

The image is a picture of a Mail Pouch To***co barn advertisement. These advertisements were a form of roadside advertising for the chewing to***co brand, which was manufactured by the Bloch Brothers To***co Company.
The company would pay barn owners to have one or more sides of their barn painted with the "Chew Mail Pouch To***co, Treat Yourself to the Best" slogan.
The program ran from 1891 to 1992, with over 20,000 barns painted across 22 states at its peak in the early 1960s.
The Highway Beautification Act of 1965 banned most roadside advertising, but an amendment in 1974 allowed the Mail Pouch barns to remain, recognizing them as historic landmarks.
Mail Pouch chewing to***co is still produced today by Swisher International Group.
