Holiday Sugar Cookie Recipe (some holiday baking ideas 😌)!!
2 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 cups of powdered sugar
1 cup butter softened
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
Cream together powdered sugar, butter, eggs, vanilla and almond extract. Mix in flour and cream of tartar. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for two hours. Heat oven to 375°F. Divide. Keep half of the refrigerated product while working with the other half. Roll each half to a 1/4 inch height on a floured surface. Cut into shapes. Place on a greased baking sheet. Bake until the edges are light brown, 7-8 minutes. Cool on a baking rack.
Here are Some Tips:
1. By Wilton’s Cookie Tree Kit. It contains all the cookie-cutter starships you will need to make 20 cookies. You will need two of each size in the kit to make a tree, 20 cookies.
2. Use your favorite sugar cookie recipe. You will be happier using familiar dough scraps to make traditional cut-out cookies. Be mindful to make enough dough to complete a tree. Increase the recipe to 5 to 6 cups of flour (usually two batches).
3. We prefer not to glue the cookie layers on top of each other with icing. Instead, make a hole in the center of each cookie a little bigger than the width of a long wooden skewer. Place the cookies on top of each other and thread the skewer through the center of the pile, after you have secured and placed a baked small star on the top end of the skewer. This step makes serving the cookies so much easier than prying them apart when secured with icing.
4. The tree is easier to decorate when it is put together. Use whatever you like; glaze, icing, sprinkles, chocolate, etc.
5. Make it super easy ~ make the tree out of a sheet of homemade Rice Crispy Treats!
